#DISNEYPLANES FOR GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™

THE WALT DISNEY STUDIOS HOSTS SPECIAL Q&A AND SCREENING OF “DISNEY’S PLANES” FOR GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS YOUTH PILOT AND LOCAL AVIATION MUSEUM

BURBANK, Calif. (July 25, 2013) – On Sunday, July 21, 2013, The Walt Disney Studios hosted a special screening of “Disney’s Planes,” bringing together Jack Wiegand, the 21-year-old pilot who broke the record in the Guinness World Records as the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world, and Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum (TAM), a non-profit organization inspiring at-risk youth to hone applicable skills and empowering them to take flight through various programs.

Wiegand was invited to present his inspirational stories and take questions from the students and family members of TAM about his journey, which stretched approximately 21,000 nautical miles, crossed three oceans and touched base in 12 countries in only 59 days. Wiegand hails from Fresno, Calif., and discovered his passion for flying at 13 years old; he was thrilled to share his testimony to inspire aviation among youth. “I loved the movie,” said Wiegand. “ I think it will spark the interest of aviation for many young people.”

“Jack is the embodiment of what we try to do with the kids at TAM,” said Robin Petgrave, Founder and Executive Director of TAM. “They identified with him and were inspired because he showed them that age doesn't matter to pursue your dreams.”

TAM is an established 501(c)(3), improving the quality of life in Compton, Calif., by fighting poverty with education, and providing a safe haven for at-risk youth ages 8-21. TAM serves an estimated 6,000 people per year with their various activities exposing local youth to the possibility of aviation through afterschool air aviation courses taught by FAA- certified flight instructors, tutorial lessons, SAT Prep courses, leadership development, motivational speeches and more.

Inspired by the world of “Cars” and directed by Disneytoon Studios veteran and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall (“King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”), “Disney’s Planes” is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure about Dusty’s dream of competing as a high-flying air racer—and his decidedly unfortunate fear of heights. The film takes off in theaters in 3D on Aug. 9, 2013.

ABOUT JACK WIEGAND AND SOLO 20/13
The title of the mission, SOLO 20/13, holds personal significance to Wiegand as it highlights some key elements of his journey as a pilot: he began flying at the age of 13, he took off on his SOLO flight in the year 2013, and was 20 years old when departed from Fresno for his mission to break the Guinness World Records™ title.
The SOLO 20/13 mission raised awareness and support for two charitable causes. These organizations are Big Brothers Big Sisters, invested in building relationships with children facing adversity, and the Ag Warriors project of the International Agri-Center, preparing returning veterans for careers in the agriculture industry.
