Final Results from #Oshbash: A Tent Full of #Avgeeks Celebrates Aviation Social Networking! - Airplanista Aviation Blog | Last night's #Oshbash event was great fun, and shined a light on the growing aviation social networking community that seems to add new and exciting members ever day.As the organizer, host, and creator of #Oshbash, I consider it a success in all aspects. We packed the Press Tent at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh with about 80 Airplanistas, with another 40-50 milling around outside in the Press Hospitality tent. In addition, the event was streamed live to the world by the video crew from Other Peoples Airplanes. I owe a mountain of gratitude to David Allen,...

Gathering of Warbirds and Legends Day 0 – Getting There - Airspeed Online | My wingman FOD and I left Airspeed Intergalactic Spaceport this morning at 0545 US ET and pointed the nose of the trusty crew vehicle west. The first stop was the Farnsworth House in Plano, Illinois. It’s a Mies van der Rohe design. It’s a paradigmatic example of modernist design. It’s beautiful. And anyone who thinks that it blends in with nature or disappears into its setting is fooling himself. The house stands out starkly with its bright white color, cantilevered feel, and right angles. It’s exactly what it’s supposed to be: A functional artifice in a beautiful natural setting....

This year’s RIAT - Photorecon.net | ...The RIAT is a huge air show which always has a few exotic, seldom seen anywhere else aircraft in the static. There are always unique flying formations. Also the show is very good in commemorating aviation events from a very English point of view. As an example I am not sure how the Germans felt about the on-going remembering of the famous Dambuster Raid this year. The show gives some nice opportunities for photography. Specially the departing day after the show gives ample opportunity to catch a few nice shots.
Grassroots Bomber Command Museum of Canada Continues to Grow - Warbird News | The Bomber Command Museum of Canada, located about 60 miles south of Calgary in the tiny town of Nanton, Alberta (population approximately 2,000) began almost accidentally, though over the years it has grown again and again. Starting with one derelict plane, an Avro Lancaster bomber that the town got together to restore, the popularity of the plane and the subsequent additions to the museum’s collection have brought the museum to bursting at the seams yet again. The museum has put together a plan for yet another larger facility, which will encompass 36,000 square feet of additional indoor space and more tarmac area to accommodate the ever-increasing collection and the crowds of guests that visit the facility, which has become one of the area’s top tourist attractions....

Anne Simpson - Flight To Success | Friday's Fabulous Flyer | ...Anne didn't always want to be a pilot, but she was connected to aviation through a family of aviators. Her mother had learned to fly with the desire to become a WASP, which unfortunately never became a reality. Her father also earned his pilots license. But as life happens, they gave up their dreams of flight when the children came along, and Anne was the middle of three. Her parents offered her flying lessons when she was in high school, but she passed on the opportunity because she was busy with horses, skiing, and high school life....
