#DISNEYPLANES FOR GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™

THE WALT DISNEY STUDIOS HOSTS SPECIAL Q&A AND SCREENING OF “DISNEY’S PLANES” FOR GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ YOUTH PILOT AND LOCAL AVIATION MUSEUM

BURBANK, Calif. (July 25, 2013) – On Sunday, July 21, 2013, The Walt Disney Studios hosted a special screening of “Disney’s Planes,” bringing together Jack Wiegand, the 21-year-old pilot who broke the record in the Guinness World Records as the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world, and Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum (TAM), a non-profit organization inspiring at-risk youth to hone applicable skills and empowering them to take flight through various programs.

Wiegand was invited to present his inspirational stories and take questions from the students and family members of TAM about his journey, which stretched approximately 21,000 nautical miles, crossed three oceans and touched base in 12 countries in only 59 days. Wiegand hails from Fresno, Calif., and discovered his passion for flying at 13 years old; he was thrilled to share his testimony to inspire aviation among youth. “I loved the movie,” said Wiegand. “ I think it will spark the interest of aviation for many young people.”

“Jack is the embodiment of what we try to do with the kids at TAM,” said Robin Petgrave, Founder and Executive Director of TAM. “They identified with him and were inspired because he showed them that age doesn't matter to pursue your dreams.”

TAM is an established 501(c)(3), improving the quality of life in Compton, Calif., by fighting poverty with education, and providing a safe haven for at-risk youth ages 8-21. TAM serves an estimated 6,000 people per year with their various activities exposing local youth to the possibility of aviation through afterschool air aviation courses taught by FAA- certified flight instructors, tutorial lessons, SAT Prep courses, leadership development, motivational speeches and more.

Inspired by the world of “Cars” and directed by Disneytoon Studios veteran and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall (“King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”), “Disney’s Planes” is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure about Dusty’s dream of competing as a high-flying air racer—and his decidedly unfortunate fear of heights. The film takes off in theaters in 3D on Aug. 9, 2013.

ABOUT “DISNEY’S PLANES”
From above the world of “Cars” comes “Disney’s Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. Rated PG by the MPAA, “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013. For more information, check out Disney.com/Planes

ABOUT JACK WIEGAND AND SOLO 20/13
The title of the mission, SOLO 20/13, holds personal significance to Wiegand as it highlights some key elements of his journey as a pilot: he began flying at the age of 13, he took off on his SOLO flight in the year 2013, and was 20 years old when departed from Fresno for his mission to break the Guinness World Records™ title.
The SOLO 20/13 mission raised awareness and support for two charitable causes. These organizations are Big Brothers Big Sisters, invested in building relationships with children facing adversity, and the Ag Warriors project of the International Agri-Center, preparing returning veterans for careers in the agriculture industry.

Short Decks and Swordfish - Air & Space Magazine | Barely two hours after Great Britain declared war on Germany at the start of World War II, a U-boat torpedoed the British ocean liner SS Athenia, killing more than 60 of the 1,500 aboard and beginning the long, harrowing Battle of the Atlantic. From that sinking on September 3, 1939, until three weeks before the German surrender in May 1945, the U-boats struck. The worst year was 1942, when more than 1,000 Allied ships were lost, along with their cargoes of fuel, food, and materiel on which Britain depended for survival. The British had a shocking answer to the submarine menace: a 1934 open-cockpit biplane with fixed landing gear and a cruise speed of around 100 mph. The bigger shock: It worked....

The Fastest and Most Powerful Electric Airplane to Break Official World Speed Record at the California Capital Airshow

Chip Yates, the first human in history to exceed 200 MPH in an electricairplane, will try to beat his original record at Mather Airport this October

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – July 10, 2013 - The California Capital Airshow (CCA), presented by Sacramento County, today announced the addition of Chip Yates, founder and CEO of Flight of the Century, Inc. (www.flightofthecentury.com), and his ongoing mission to ‘make science cool’ as he attempts to break his current world speed record of 202 miles per hour in an electric airplane in front of the crowd at Mather Airport on Saturday, October 5, 2013.

“I want to be an example to teens, to inspire them. I’m someone that is using my STEM education to go out and change the world while doing something really cool; they can too,” said Chip Yates. “The realm of science, technology, engineering and math are gateways for kids to not only learn but to truly explore all of the opportunities available to them. If you can dream it, you can build it and I’m living proof of that.”

At only 13 years old, Yates was destined to utilize his education to push the current limits of technology. He saved $50.00 and convinced his parents to invest an additional $50.00 in order to buy and rebuild his first motorcycle. Since then, Yates has become a highly dynamic and proven leader who is recognized worldwide as an electric vehicle pioneer and green technology innovator.

Yates quickly set his sights on aviation and adapted his water-cooled 258 horsepowerelectric motor and controller system to an aircraft designed by Burt Rutan (famed aerospace engineer, best known for the design of SpaceShipOne, the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer, and Voyager); but Yates had one problem – he was not a pilot. He earned his pilot’s license in two months and had only 58 hours when he flew on July 18, 2012 where he established a world speed record for electric powered aircraft of 202 mph.

“We’re thrilled and honored to have Chip Yates at this year’s Airshow,” said Darcy Brewer, executive director of the California Capital Airshow. “Chip truly embodies whatit means to follow your dreams. Kids of all ages will not only get to see Chip fly and attempt to break a world record, but they’ll also get the chance to meet him, talk to him and ask him questions. He’ll be at the show both days and will be part of a featured exhibit. It’s going to be an amazing opportunity.”

The CCA will be all things “shiny, fast and loud” for all ages and so much more! Tickets are now available online and can be easily purchased at the Airshow web site, http://www.californiacapitalairshow.com/buytickets.php. Click here to see the full line up of performers. The Airshow web site will be updated regularly with news, attraction information and more. Fans can follow the Airshow on Facebook and Twitter (#calcapairshow).
