More Unique Planes On Display - LASTV  - PFLUGERVILLE, TX – AUGUST 4, 2011 – The 2011 National Aviation Heritage Invitational, held during the Reno National Championship Air Races, had a number of one-of-a-kind aircraft on display. Previously LiveAirShowTV brought you a look at Clay Lacy’s DC-2, which won the Howard Hughes Trophy for Large Aircraft. Now, we’ll take a look at the Hamilton Metalplane. Never heard of it? You have heard of the Hamilton Standard propeller company. They are one in the same. The Hamilton Metalplane was built in the late 1920’s and only 29 were built. It was used as an airmail, cargo, and passenger plane. Wien Air Alaska used them to pioneer air transportation in the far off regions of the Alaskan Wilderness. Pilot and restorer Chuck Wentworth tells the story of the plane which won the Ovrille and Wilbur Wright trophy in the Antique category.
