Vectren Dayton Air Show and Dayton Visual Arts Center announce commemorative event poster artist

Dayton, Ohio – Trish McKinney of New Carlisle, Ohio has been selected to complete the commemorative event poster for the 2011 Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger. Trish’s art proposal “Fly!” was selected as the winning piece by a jury from a field of ten entries by six accomplished artists. Dayton Visual Arts Center (DVAC) and the Air Show joined together in a partnership this year inviting area artists to design the annual commemorative poster. The idea was to tap local talent to create a unique art piece that would proudly represent the Air Show and community.

In presenting her proposal, Trish described “Fly!” as being about the joy and wonder a child feels soaring through the air and portrays the event as family entertainment. “We have all been a child and wondered what it would be like to fly. I am certain that emotion inspired the creation of the first airplane. I focused on the word “excitement” when creating the sketch and thought about how a child would view the show,” she commented.

“We are truly pleased with the results of the art competition and believe Trish’s entry captured the excitement of the show,” stated Michael Emoff, Chairman of the United States Air & Trade Show Board of Trustees, producers of the event. “We received many excellent entries from talented artists making the final selection a difficult decision. We thank all the artists involved for their submission and interest in the show,” he added.

“Fly!” will be available for purchase at the annual DVAC auction, on April 29th at Sinclair Community College’s Ponitz Center. Proceeds from the sale will benefit DVAC’s exhibitions and programs. The original will be a gallery wrapped acrylic on canvas. A select number of reproductions based on the winning piece will be printed for distribution throughout the community and for use by the show.

The 37th Annual Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger will take place on July 23 and 24, 2011, at the Dayton International Airport. The show will be headlined by the world-renowned US Air Force Thunderbirds.

Founded in 1975, the Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger is one of America’s premier air shows. The Air Show showcases world-class aerobatic champions, military jet demonstrations and entertainment for the whole family celebrating Dayton’s aviation heritage as home of the Wright Brothers, National Museum
