Former Area 51 Employees Reunite, Part Two  from Ares by Sean Meade | In a sense, the Roadrunners' visit to Rachel had a covert, psyops dimension. The veterans and the Agency left behind umpteen copies of David Robarge's book on the history of the A-12, subtly introducing the virus of truth into the heart of the alien conspiracy theory establishment. Even after years of the programs' progressively extensive declassification, a dose of uncut reality was clearly in order: in May, a new book purporting to tell the truth about Area 51 took the fictions off in elaborate new directions…

Osprey Down: Marines Shift Story on Controversial Warplane’s Safety Record  from Wired: Danger Room by David Axe | It’s an aircraft with a reputation for falling from the sky. But on at least one occasion, the U.S. military’s controversial V-22 Osprey tiltrotor — a hybrid transport that takes off like a helicopter and cruises like an airplane, thanks to its rotating engine nacelles — did just the opposite. It flew upward, out of control of its pilots…

Virgin Galactic is the Best (and the Only) Game in Town  from Flight Monkeys | Now that NASA is out of the human space flight business, many space buffs and exploration believers have felt a certain void in their lives. The USA no longer has the capacity to put a man into space – and that feels wrong somehow.  Have no fear FlightMonkeys (or in this case, SpaceMonkeys), there is hope on the horizon and its name is Virgin Galactic. This partnership of vision and adventure has bound the creative talent and mechanical brilliance of Burt Rutan’s Scaled Composites with Richard Branson’s long standing desire to push the potential of humanity to new heights. Well, in this case they’re doing it literally – and they’re doing it in a way that NASA never would have dreamed…

What's foxy and French, and a 'Friend' of Sally B? The Fennec  by shortfinals | ‘Sally B and Friends’ at the Imperial War Museum’s Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire on July 31st was a thunderous success. There was the thunder of heavy piston engines, with several unique formations flying by (B-17, DC-3, Beech 18, Beech Staggerwing, for example) and thunderous applause from the crowd for everything from the aerobatic displays to the period music. I was delighted to be there, and I can confidently state despite the fact that it was billed as ‘not a flying display’, that I have attended flying displays that had less flying (especially warbirds), and much less in the way of ‘ground entertainment’ including period vehicles, re-enactors in uniform and music of the WW2 era…

World War II Planes Land in Morgantown - WBOY-TV | It's a powerful, powerful thing to be a part of," explained Derick Ward, a mechanic for the P-51 Mustang and co-pilot of the B-17 and B-24. It's now wheels up and throttle forward to the cruise configuration of the autonomous unmanned aircraft that's eventually headed for the aircraft carrier. These two images were released a couple days ago showing the wheels up for the first time, so I've made them available as CoolPix images for your viewing pleasure.
