Steven Hinton wins Reno Gold Number Five in 5…… · Joe Kates, Photorecon.net | September 15th, 2013. Piloting the highly modified P-51 Mustang Race #5 “Voodoo”, Hinton completed all 8 laps of the Breitling Gold race with an average lap time of 07:59.313 and a top speed of 482.074 mph. The win was a bitter sweet moment for team owner Bob Button and crew. After years of chasing Reno Gold this was to be the year the stars aligned for Button and Voodoo. All of us at Photorecon would like to congratulate the Voodoo team on a well-deserved win and for making “Purple the New Red”.

Well, now that I'm a lot older and a little wiser, I have more respect for the T-6's and their race efforts...

It shows a 22-aircraft “freedom launch” on 11 September at Travis AFB in California. It says: “Seven Boeing C-17 Globemaster IIIs and 11 KC-10 Extenders alongside four Lockheed Martin C-5B Galaxies from the 60th Air Mobility Wing lined up in what is historically referred to as an “elephant walk,” then launched consecutively over 36 minutes to take part in Air Mobility Command missions. The first plane in the lineup, a C-17, launched at 8:46 a.m., the same time terrorists crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City 12 years earlier.”
