World's only flying 'Mosquito' to perform at Thunder Over Michigan - Hometownlife.com | A rare British airplane will head into the blue skies Aug. 10-11 over Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti. It's one of the featured airplanes at Thunder Over Michigan Air Show, produced by the Yankee Air Museum..The de Havilland DH-98 Mosquito was a British multi-role combat aircraft that served during World War II and postwar operations. Sometimes referred to as "Mossie," it held many different roles from fast and fighter bomber, to a night fighter, to an overseas transport aircraft. The Mosquito is constructed almost entirely of wood and is...

Vintage planes shown off at Flathead air show - KAJ18 Kalispell Montana News | KALISPELL - Budget cuts couldn't ground aviation enthusiasts as members of the Flathead Chamber of Commerce banded together with the help of the community and some high-ranking U.S. Air Force members to put on an unforgettable show in the skies above Flathead Lake. Five vintage planes put on a show for the Flathead in lieu of the Thunderbird's air show in Kalispell, which was cancelled due to federal sequestration cuts....

An Inside Look at a Restored Douglas DC-3 at Historic Flight - Airline Reporter | Paine Field (KPAE) in Everett, WA is home to a variety of both modern and vintage aircraft. Though brand spanking new Boeing planes are built there and delivered to around the world, the vintage aircraft hopefully come to stay around for a while. At the Historic Flight Foundation (HFF) there are some glorious classic aircraft that have been painstakingly restored and are much loved by not only their owner, but also the volunteers who look after them. One such recent arrival joining the collection is a beautifully restored Douglas DC-3, in Pan American Airways [PanAm] livery, that has a checkered past. I was recently invited to check out the aircraft and was able to learn a bit more about its history...

Inverted Jenny Stamp To Be Re-Issued ... On Purpose This Time - Aero-News Network | Release Will Coincide With Opening Of National Postal Museum's Stamp Gallery | In 1918, to celebrate the first Air Mail flight, the Post Office Department had the 24-cent Curtiss Jenny stamp produced. Because the design required two colors, sheets were placed on the printing press twice — a process given to human error — as stamp collectors at the time well knew. One collector, William T. Robey, was on the lookout for stamps with printing errors on the morning of May 14, 1918, the first day of issuance for the stamp and the day before Air Mail service began....
