Shuttle Carrier Aircraft - Travel for Aircraft | Space Shuttles, orbiters, were able to land at several places on the planet but landed at only one of two facilities — the Kennedy Space Center and Edwards Air Force Base. Each orbiter was serviced, assembled and launched from the Kennedy Space Center so a way to transport a Shuttle to Cape Kennedy was devised by carrying it atop a modified Boeing B-747. Two aircraft were modified into Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, as termed by NASA.
