The Aviators May Update

May 19, 2012

And the Award Goes To...

We are very proud to announce that "The Aviators" has won a Silver Plaque in the category of Educational/Documentary Series at the 48th Hugo Television Awards.
Hugo Award
The Hugo Awards are presented by Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival. This is the show's first award win in it's first award entry. Other 2012 Hugo winners were NBC's "30 Rock" and "Smash" and CBS' "Criminal Minds."

Filming in North Dakota

Decathlon Earlier this month, The Aviators crew made a trip to Grand Forks to visit the University of North Dakota to explore some of the varied careers in aviation including air traffic controller, helicopter pilot, and more.
The crew then flew to Fargo where the team at Weather Modifications Inc. explained the mystery of cloud seeding. Segments were filmed for season 3 of The Aviators, coming this September.

Back in Oshkosh

Oshkosh is, of course, known for AirVenture, but it's also the home of Basler Turbo Conversions, a company that revitalizes DC-3's and customizes them for unique missions. It's really something to behold!

Also based at KOSH is Sonex Aircraft, an innovative LSA company with not only very affordable kit planes but also leading edge jet and even electric experimental aircraft.

The Aviators takes you flying in a Basler DC-3 and a Sonex Sport-Acro in our upcoming third season!

The Reason We Do This

During a recent filming at Wittman Regional in Oshkosh, WI (the official home of The Aviators) we were fortunate enough for the Aerostars Aerobatic Team to fly up from Chicago for a segment featuring them.

Since they were going to perform their entire routine for our cameras, the aerobatic box at KOSH had to be set up as it would be for any air show. But this really wasn't going to be an air show, per se. Well, between the local media and nearby aviation fans simply looking up, a show is exactly what it ended up being!

Oshkosh is a town that loves aviation. But there are hundreds, even thousands of other places that feel just the same way. Millions of people enjoying the wonderment of flight, across the country, and around the world.

If "The Aviators" can take you someplace you'd love to be like the cockpit of a P-51 or a flight with the USAF Thunderbirds, teach you something like how an airline flight works, what a stall really is, or even help encourage and inspire you to fulfill your lifelong dream of flight; then we're doing something important and rewarding. We want to thank all of our fans for supporting us, and letting us bring these stories to your homes.

We are proud and honored to present to you "The Aviators."
