US Air Force Adds Two Crowd Favorites to 2011 Lineup

Dayton, Ohio – Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger officials announced today the addition of two crowd favorites to the 2011 show, which will be held on July 23rd and 24th. US Air Force officials confirmed that the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the C-17 Globemaster III are both slated as demonstration aircraft at the 37th annual show which will be held at the Dayton International Airport. These impressive exhibitions will join a blockbuster lineup headlined by the US Air Force Thunderbirds.

Specially designed for close air support, the A-10 Thunderbolt II has excellent maneuverability at low air speeds and altitude as well as a highly accurate weapons-delivery system. The venerable Warthog, dubbed for its unglamorous appearance, came into the Air Force inventory in 1975 and no one guessed that it would still be a valuable asset in 2011. In fact, days ago the A-10 Thunderbolt was ordered to Libya to support US military efforts in Operation Odyssey Dawn. With several upgrades through the years, it’s one tough fighter as the Warthog can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high explosive projectiles up to 23mm and fly when hydraulic power is lost. Known as the “tank buster”, the Thunderbolt has contributed in many military operations including Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. The Air Combat Command East Coast A-10 Demonstration Team, from Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, will provide this year’s Thunderbolt Demonstration. Leading this year’s team and flying the demo will be Major Dylan “HABU” Thorpe, who was born in Danville, Illinois and grew up in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Another “big” hit on the air show circuit is a demonstration by the massive US Air Force
C-17 Globemaster III. The C-17, the newest, most flexible cargo aircraft in the Air Force will provide an engaging demonstration for air show spectators in Dayton this year. This enormous aircraft is nearly 200 feet long and 55 feet high and has a maximum gross takeoff weight of 585,000 pounds. The versatile aircraft can perform tactical airlift and airdrop missions and can also transport litters and ambulatory patients during aeromedical evacuations when required. Recently the C-17 was in the Dayton news as the 445th Airlift Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB announced that the unit will begin replacing their aging C-5 aircraft with eight C-17s. The aircraft performing at this year’s show hails from the 58th Airlift Squadron, 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

“This is great news from the Air Force,” said Michael Emoff, Chairman of the United States Air & Trade Show Board of Trustees, producers of the show. “These awesome demonstrations along with those we’ve already announced will make for a terrific show in 2011. And, we’re not finished adding to lineup; you’ll see some other fantastic performers announced in a few weeks,” Emoff added.

Previously publicized, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will have top billing at the Vectren Dayton Air Show along with first time appearances by the Red Bull Helicopter flown by Chuck Aaron along with industry first, an all-women wing walking routine featuring pilot Melissa Pemberton and Carol Pilon. Rounding out the line-up will be crowd favorite, Tora Tora Tora, an eight-plane emotional reenactment of the bombing of Pearl Harbor complete with pyrotechnics, the all-American US Army Golden Knight Parachute Team, and air show legendary pilot Sean D. Tucker.

A variety of ticket packages are on sale through the show’s web site, www.daytonairshow.com. Popular areas such as the Blue Sky Chalet and LaRosa’s Pavilion are sure to be sell outs. Visit the show’s website for further information.

Beginning June 6th, 2011, Kroger will be exclusively offering $3.00 off adult and children tickets.
This offer will be conveniently available at over 100 Kroger stores in the Dayton-Cincinnati region. Kroger discount tickets are good for either Saturday or Sunday admission.

Founded in 1975, the Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger is one of America’s premier air shows. The Air Show showcases world-class aerobatic champions, military jet demonstrations and entertainment for the whole family celebrating Dayton’s aviation heritage as home of the Wright Brothers, National Museum of the US Air Force and Wright-Patterson AFB. For more information, visit www.daytonairshow.com.

Wings Over Wine Country 2011 Commemorates the 10th Anniversary of Sept. 11th, 2001 and the Centennial of Naval Aviation

Santa Rosa, Calif., March 30, 2011 – The PACIFIC COAST AIR MUSEUM (PCAM) is proud to host the Wings Over Wine Country Air Show on August 20-21, 2011 at the Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa California.  A tremendous lineup of flying includes military jet demonstrations, world class civilian aerobatics and a host of Warbirds.  A large number of  static displays will include the museum’s collection of over 30 restored aircraft (most of which will be open for climb aboards), civilian and military statics and morning access to the warbirds that will fly later in the show.  In addition, this year’s air show program will commemorate two historic events , the tenth anniversary of September 11th, 2001 and the Centennial of Naval Aviation.

Each day the air show will open with a ceremony honoring the bravery and sacrifice of the first responders and those who perished..  The local police and fire departments will have a significant presence in both equipment and personnel in a show of local pride.  Opening ceremonies will include local dignitaries and Pacific Coast Air Museum leadership in a brief program that will commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11.  In December 2010 the Pacific Coast Air Museum took possession of the first aircraft to respond on September 11, 2001, an F-15A Eagle.  Check the museum website for updates on its restoration.

Flying and static exhibits will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation.  In January 1911, Eugene B. Ely completed the world’s first landing on a ship, the USS Pennsylvania in the San Francisco Bay.  An hour later he took off from the ship marking the first combined landing and takeoff from a ship board runway.  To honor that milestone we plan to have a variety of WWII Navy Warbirds fly in the air show and have the museum’s collection of Navy fighter jets displayed together.  Finally, a T-33 Shooting Star, flown by Greg Colyer and painted in Blue Angels colors, will fly an aerobatic routine during the show.

Military participation in the Wings Over Wine Country Air Show includes the F/A-18 Super Hornet demonstration, the C-17 Globemaster III demonstration, U-2 Dragon Lady overflights, T-38 Talon flybys and F-15 Eagle overflights by the 173rd Fighter Wing, Oregon National Guard. (above subject to military scheduling)

Our outstanding civilian air show line up includes:
·         Eddie Andreini in his  Super Stearman
·         Tim Decker in his beautiful red and white Pitts Special
·         Canadian favorite Team Rocket in two Harmon Rockets
·         Dan Buchanan is his towed hang glider
·         Aerobatic Competition winner Melissa Pemberton in her Edge 540
·         Greg Colyer in his Blue Angels T-33 Shooting Star
·         Many P-51 Mustangs and other Warbirds
·         Many fabulous static display aircraft
·         A great classic Car Show
·         Lots of activities for families and children, including a huge “Kid’s World” with lots of kid favorite inflatables
·         And much much more

Enhance your air show experience by watching the show from the President’s Club (an exclusive, catered tent along the flightline) or attending the Friday night Performer Reception (where you can meet the air show performers and see their aircraft up close).  Purchase air show, President’s Club and Performer Reception Tickets online at our website.

Gates open both days at 9:00 a.m. for pre-show activities, including radio controlled model aircraft demonstrations. The main Air Show events kick off at 11:00 a.m.  Discount advance tickets can be purchased at the Museum and Sonoma County Round Table Pizza locations.  Tickets may be purchased at www.WingsOverWineCountry.org.  Convenience charges may apply.
Visit our website at www.WingsOverWineCountry.org for more information.
