It's Not Just About What’s Soaring Overhead at the California Capital Airshow

The ninth annual California Capital Airshow, presented by Sacramento County, is right around the corner promising an action-packed weekend of family entertainment. One of the many reasons we produce this annual event is to bring fans a personal experience of significant periods in history and this year is very special for several reasons.

In the aftermath of sequestration, we are proud to welcome back the United States military. Hosting military performers provides an opportunity to spark the imagination of young people, encouraging them to explore the worlds of aviation and aerospace as well as the many career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related fields. No textbook, classroom, museum or video showcases our nation’s history, innovation and technological advancements over the past century in such a unique and exciting way.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I. The Great War touched nearly everyone’s life in some way. Children grew up in the shadow of battle, their fathers absent or lost; for the first time, women became directly involved in the war effort, picking up the pieces of industry and agriculture as the men went off to fight. World War I shaped our world, our culture, and our lives. It was an extraordinary time.

The 2014 Airshow honors the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion where Allies gained a major foothold in Northern Europe. World War II delivered jet engines, computers, radar and much of the technology we take for granted today.

To honor these major events in history and those who played a role, Airshow fans can expect the 2014 Theme to be both educational and inspirational. Stars & Stripes Forever tributes throughout the weekend will be a salute to veterans and the greatest generation highlighted by flying performances, narration, exhibits, pyrotechnics, music, and costumed re-enactors. In addition, fans will have the opportunity to meet almost 100 WWII veterans, pilots, inventors and designers who have literally changed the world. This loud and colorful production is a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to America’s veterans, honoring their service and sacrifice while offering a solemn promise that their selfless commitment to our country has not been forgotten.

We are honored that fans from all over the world join us for this thrilling and unforgettable event and grateful to the dedicated sponsors, army of volunteers and valued attendees for the support we receive each year. For show details, please visit www.californiacapitalairshow.com.
