AUGUST 9th & 10th, 2008
The Yankee Air Museum’s 2008 Chrysler Jeep Superstores “Thunder Over Michigan” Air Display is celebrating its 10th anniversary and will be Saturday, August 9th and Sunday, August 10th, 2008 at Willow Run Airport.
In honor of the 10th anniversary, the Yankee Air Museum promises to make this year’s “Thunder Over Michigan’s” Air Display the best warbird show ever. The Show will feature a salute to the "rough and tough" P-47 Thunderbolt. Plus, a special segment dedicated to the beloved WWII Heavy Bombers- a wide variety of vintage and modern military Fighters, Bombers & Transports that will help celebrate the event's 10th Anniversary.
“In only 10 short years we are proud to have put Detroit on the map in the aviation event industry,” says Kevin T. Walsh, Air Display Director. “Our spectators are from all over the U.S. and Canada and we even have fans traveling overseas from England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.”
New this year is an exclusive Flight-line Chalet allowing guests to upgrade their ticket and enjoy the show in a comfortable and close-up viewing area.
The Flight-Line Chalet is a spacious, tented area designed for guests to enjoy some shade and have access to tables and chairs for relaxation. Space is limited to 300 people per day. Adult Flight-Line Tickets (ages 16+) are $25/per person/per day in advance and $40/per person/per day if purchased at the show site. Kids 15 years old and under are FREE when accompanied by an adult into the Flight-Line Chalet. The Chalet ticket does not include air show admission or parking those tickets must be purchased separately.
This is one of the most fun and affordable events in metro Detroit for the entire family. The Yankee Air Museum eliminated youth fees last year and allows all children 15 years and younger admitted for FREE. Tickets are on sale now for $15 per adult, which is a 40% discount off the regular admission gate price until July 1st. From July 1- August 8th, the tickets are $20 each and then $25 at the gate. Parking is also discounted to $5 per vehicle right now and will be $10 at the gate.
Lauded as America’s best warbird show, the Yankee Air Museum’s 2008 “Thunder Over Michigan” Air Display will also keep with their strong theme of saluting vintage and modern military aircraft.
The Air Display will introduce for the first time ever, North America’s largest, armored WWII battle reenactment featuring numerous armored vehicles and aircraft. Plus in honor of the 10th anniversary, the Air Museum has brought in special guest, Gunnery Sgt. R. Lee Ermey, to sign autographs and take pictures with in the Yankee Air Museum tent both on Saturday and Sunday. Ermey has starred in the film “Full Metal Jacket” and was nominated in 1988 for a Golden Globe award for his role. Currently he is working on two films that are in production, “Cat Tale” and “Black Mountain.” He has been in numerous other films and television shows for nearly the last 30 years.
Tickets are available at www.starticketsplus.com , charge by phone at 800-585-3737, or visit any Meijer store and purchase at the StarTicketsPlus kiosk.
All proceeds from the 2008 Chrysler Jeep Superstores “Thunder Over Michigan” Air Display will be directed to the museum’s efforts to rebuild a new museum complex. In October 2004 the museum suffered a devastating fire in which their entire WWII hangar and most of its contents were lost.
