In memory of Alejandro Maclean 1969-2010 - Red Bull Air Races
It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Red Bull Air Race pilot Alejandro (Alex) Maclean, who has died today at the age of 41 following a fatal accident in his native Spain while carrying out aerobatic training for an Air Show. Our thoughts are with his wife Emma and their two children aged 7 and 12.  The entire Red Bull Air Race community and the aerobatic fraternity have lost one of their most vibrant and passionate characters. Alex’s significant contribution to the growth and development of the Red Bull Air Race over the past six years and to aviation in general will be remembered forever by those who shared this journey with him. ...

Applegate Fly-In from Antique Airfield News
For many aviation enthusiasts, the year revolves around the week of AirVenture in Oshkosh. The anticipation leading up to that week is much like we felt about Christmas when we were youngsters. After that week, there is naturally the realization that Oshkosh is over with for another year. This condition, Post-Oshkosh Blues, can be quite depressing. For those of us located in The Midwest, we have a remedy ...

KC-135 Ride! 434th ARW (Grissom Air Reserve Base) + Thirsty B-52 by Martt
On Wednesday, July 21, 2010 I had the extreme pleasure of getting to go along on a KC-135 refueling flight operated by the 74th Air Refueling Squadron, which is part of the 434th Air Refueling Wing, based at the Grissom Air Reserve Base  near Peru, Indiana. That puts Grissom ARB is about 60 miles straight north of Indianapolis, and about 50 miles south-southwest of where I'm at in Warsaw, Indiana. It was a special 'social media' flight that gave me and other folks from outlets like Indy Transponder, Flight Line Internet Radio, My Sky Mom, myTransponder and more, the opportunity to see an air refueling mission up close and personal. Wow! I must say it was an awesome experience! ...

The Future of Vintage Aircraft Operation and Restoration from Another Time
A few years from now will we still see vintage aircraft flying through the skies?  What does the future hold!?
Many issues come to mind in looking to the future of vintage aircraft operation and restoration.  Issues related to engine parts, airframe parts, fuel, and the costs of all of those items rolled into what we will call "operational costs" for this article.  Who has the skills and tools to restore and maintain vintage aircraft?  Are the skills to fly these aircraft being taught to new pilots today?  Then, what could be done to generate an interest in flying? What needs ...

Aviators mourn loss of five Maine pilots over past month - The Portland Press Herald
Although the string of accidents is unusual, it is unclear whether the crash rate has risen.
Maine's aviation community has lost five pilots in the past four weeks in an unusual string of small-plane crashes.
The three fatal accidents happened in different parts of the state, under different circumstances. But collectively, the losses are a blow to the state's small cadre of fliers, many of whom lost close friends or mentors. ...
