Wings of Dreams is proud to announce that its newly-acquired 1943 Douglas C-47 is on the ramp - a donation from the Lee County Mosquito Control District. This aircraft is flyable and will be repainted in an Army Air Corps paint scheme with D-Day invasion stripes.
The C-47 will be used to promote interest in World War II history and eventually for
D-Day reenactment flights.
The C-47 is considered the most successful military aircraft in history and is the only WWII aircraft still in service.
When asked to list the Allied weapons that most helped to end the war, Supreme Commander-Europe General Dwight Eisenhower said without hesitation: "The bazooka, the jeep, the atom bomb and
C-47."
