Blacksheep Reunion

The Famous Fighter Squadron of VMF-214 Blacksheep led by Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington will be holding their last Reunion.  Jim Hill, Tom Emrich, Ed Harper, and Harry Johnson will be attending.  Special Guest to join us for the Reunion will be Greg Boyington Jr. Pappy son.

The Blacksheep Reunion will be held at Yuma Marine Corps Base April 13-15, 2011.  The Blacksheep Pilots will arrive on the 13th, the morning and lunch of the 14th will be for Squadron Only, ..... late Afternoon and Evening will be for Public by Invitation.  Dan Friedkin will be bringing his Vought F4U-4 Blacksheep Corsair, and the current day VMA-214 Blacksheep will do a Harrier Demo.

More information will be submitted when exact time lines are confirmed.

The Black Sheep Squadron

With Todays date the Famous VMF-214 Blacksheep Pilots under the Command of Maj. Gregory "Pappy" Boyington is down to 5 Pilots still with us. The past couple of years have been taking a toll on our WWII Veterans, and soon they will no longer be with us.

The VMF-214 Blacksheep Pilots where 52 strong at one point and some became MIA and some Shot in Battle during WWII. The Blacksheep are very well known, and if you ask a person about the F4U Corsair ...the first thing they say is Pappy Boyington.
I wanted to pass along Ltc. Col. Jim Hill (pictured) new Web Site that was designed by his son Jeff Hill. Jeff has added all kinds of info and Photos, plus Jim Pilot Logs that have never been put out for public display. Fred "Rope Trick" Losch - Black Sheep Squadron

This just in from a loyal reader, Mint Moore III, who was a close friend for Mr. Losch ....

Fred "Rope Trick" Losch passed away Friday night in his sleep.  He was one of the Original members of The VMF-214 Blacksheep that flew with Pappy Boyington.  He was a Great friend to all, and he was a Great Friend to our Family.  We spent alot of time with him and went to his Ranch in Idaho.  He will be remembered as one of the Best Corsair Pilots to have flown the Bent Wing Bird known as the Vought F4U Corsair.  Fly Safe --- Fly Fast.

White died March 17, NASA said in a statement. His son, Greg White, told the Orlando Sentinel and the Los Angeles Times that his father died in his sleep in Orlando, Fla.
