Legend Frederick E. “Ted” Bullock Passes Away
Colonel Fred Bullock: 1920 – 2010

Legend Colonel Frederick E. Bullock, known to many as Colonel “Ted” Bullock, passed away July 13, 2010.  A memorial service was held on July 22, 2010 and there was an Air Force “fly by” on August 9, 2010 over the Tahoma National Cemetery in his honor.

Colonel Bullock’s 31-year Air Force career began as a combat fighter during World War II.  Throughout the war he flew many fighters, including the famous American P-51 Mustang and British Supermarine Spitfire.

As a member of the 52nd Fighter Group, 4th Fighter Squadron, Colonel Bullock flew the Spitfire Mark V in North Africa.  After his unit transitioned to the P-51 B and later to the P-51 D, he continued his combat service in North Africa, Sicily, Corsica and Italy.  During this time, he flew in 70 total missions where he shot down three enemy fighters and provided fighter cover for B-17s and B-24s during the Ploesti oil field raids.

He held various key command roles before retiring in 1973.  After retiring, he settled down in Olympia, Washington.

The Gathering Foundation extends its sympathy and condolences to the Bullock family and is grateful for his participation in the Gathering of Mustangs & Legends in 2007.  For more stories of Colonel Frederick E. “Ted” Bullock, click here.

Gathering of Mustangs & Legends DVD featured on WOSU

A one-hour version of the Gathering of Mustangs & Legends DVD aired on WOSU, a public PBS station in Columbus Ohio, on Tuesday, August 24th and is scheduled to air numerous times on the station over the next 12 months.

The program was very well received and now WOSU is working with The Gathering Foundation to make the program available to PBS stations across the country.  Stay tuned for further updates.

Funding for the Gathering of Mustangs & Legends Commemorative Book

Since our glorious weekend nearly three years ago, The Gathering Foundation has received many inquiries about the status of a commemorative book or publication that would feature many of the thousands of images taken at the event by professional photographers from around the world.  Over the past 18 months, the Foundation has researched the costs required to produce a hardbound, “coffee table” book and is currently seeking donations from investors to finance the project.

If you or anyone you know may be interested in making a tax-deductible donation to assist with funding of the book, please contact Angela West at (407) 846-7251 or by email here.
