Aerobatic pilot Greg Poe defies gravity - Times Community Newspapers
Few are not familiar with the mythical character of Icarus, who became so enraptured by the glory of flight that he flew too close to the sun, thereby melting the wings of wax and feathers fashioned for him by Daedalus. While Icarus' fate acted as an allegorical injunction against man's reach exceeding his grasp, it has not kept generations of aviators from reaching for the sky. Veteran aerobatic pilot Greg Poe is one of those who was never dissuaded by the heat of the sun or the tug of gravity.
A native of Boise, Idaho, Poe was still an adolescent when he entered the field of aviation. The young airman cut his teeth on early flight expeditions at Strawberry Glen airport along the Boise River. Poe started flying in a Cherokee 140, but quickly transitioned to a two-seat, two-cylinder engine Champ.
"I actually learned a lot about flying in that airplane," Poe said. "I learned the basics, the really important basics."
According to Poe, his affinity for flying was inspired by the early space program. ...

Day 2 of AcroCamp from Life on the Road as a Pilot
Day 2. I think that Don and Barry really know what they’re doing. Instead of going right back into more advanced maneuvers, we had a little warmup session (remember, this was WAY out of my comfort zone and I needed to get back in the groove). I can’t read Barry’s writing of what we did that morning, but I tweeted, “Is it really only day 2 of #AcroCamp? Feels like longer, 'cause I feel like I'm getting the hang of it (hanging from my straps, that is).”
We campers were also having the time of our lives ...

Ballooning In Napa Valley from Wheels Up
The air over Napa Valley was crisp and clear. Amply suitable for a balloon flight over the lush green wineries. A little to the south, at Napa County Airport (KAPC) the winds were gusting 20-30 mph. Fog laced the valley, lowering visibility and hindering flight. But that was not a factor for us, as we raced north in vans to Yountville where Balloons Above The Valley has its launch site. ...
