The Museum of Flight: Robin Olds program and 27 Flags

Flight Plans Banner

 Greetings! ,

On July 3, the Museum presents a lecture and book signing about legendary American fighter pilot Robin Olds. During World War II, Olds quickly became a top fighter pilot and squadron commander by the age of 22--and an ace with 12 aerial victories. In Vietnam he became a legend: proving he wasn't a retread from the '40s, he scored another four aerial combat victories. Olds retired as a brigadier general. During the final weeks of his life in 2007, terminally ill Olds and his daughter Christina compiled his unfinished memoirs and gathered diaries, letters, interviews and photographs to recall his story. Christina promised him she would complete his book. She kept her pledge with the help of U.S. Air Force fighter pilot and author Ed Rasimus. "Fighter Pilot - The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds," was published in 2010. Christina Olds will talk about her amazing father and the book of his memoirs. The program is at 2 p.m. in the Allen Theater. Olds will be available to sign copies of the book afterward.

On July 4, members of Skyway Post 9430 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars honor the Nation's 234th birthday with a salute to the American flag--all 27 versions that have officially represented the United States over the years. From the first 13-star flag authorized by Congress in 1777 to today's 50-star flag, the presentation of each iteration is accompanied by the story of its symbolism in this moving and educational program for all ages. Program is at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Congratulations to David Jacobsen who took first place in our second annual Spirit of Flight juried photography exhibit. Jacobsen's photo "Palouse AG Cat" and 32 other photos are currently on display in the Great Gallery.

Check out the Museum's newly re-designed washingtonshuttleboosters.org website! Here you will learn about the Museum's bid for one of the retiring space shuttles, plans for the future space gallery, and how you can join the mission.

 Dream, Discover, Soar!

Sincerely,

The Museum of Flight
