Sea Fury in & Fw 190 out!

News from France from our friend Frederic Cottin:

Fresh news from the French sky. A new Hawker Sea Fury took to the skies last week, what a beast!

Sad news, however, on the French FW-190, which crashed in July.  The plane was sold to a German museum. Sea water made irremediable damages to the aircraft.

So after a short life in the French sky, the German lady will be the queen of a German museum.

COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE AIRCRAFT SUPPORTING EAA AIRVENTURE 2010's SALUTE TO VETERANS

More than a dozen legendary CAF warbirds to participate at Oshkosh

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. - (June 25, 2010) - Commemorative Air Force Units from throughout the U.S. are lending their support to the EAA AirVenture 2010 "Salute to Veterans" with more than a dozen legendary aircraft that will be part of the air shows and ground displays in the warbird area.

The 58th annual edition of EAA AirVenture, "The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration," will be held July 26-August 1 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

Among the airplanes that are confirmed are two airplanes whose 75th anniversaries will be recognized at Oshkosh: the B-17 Texas Raiders from Houston, Texas, and the C-47 Bluebonnet Belle from Burnet, Texas. In addition, several P-51 Mustangs and such aircraft as the B-25, SNJ, SBD Dauntless, SNJ Texan and PT-26 will be parked among the rows of warbirds at AirVenture.

"The dedication and support of the Commemorative Air Force and its Units throughout the U.S. is helping to make the Salute to Veterans at EAA AirVenture an unforgettable event," said Tom Poberezny, EAA chairman/president and AirVenture chairman. "These aircraft are painstakingly restored and maintained by the CAF as a tribute to those who have fought and sacrificed to preserve our freedoms, and we eagerly look forward to them joining us at Oshkosh."

AirVenture's Salute to Veterans is a weeklong series of activities and events that recognize all veterans and active-duty military personnel.  EAA, the EAA Warbirds of America and Disabled American Veterans are organizing the numerous programs throughout the grounds.

The CAF aircraft will participate in a variety of activities during AirVenture, including the expanded warbird shows on July 27, 30 and 31, the DC-3 "Max Effort Day" on July 27, and the Warbirds in Review ground presentations throughout the week.

"This is perhaps the greatest gathering of CAF aircraft that I've seen at Oshkosh," said Stephan Brown, CAF president and CEO.  "We are pleased to support events such as EAA AirVenture, especially when those who come to Oshkosh each year have a deep appreciation for the aircraft, the people who flew them in the military and those who are dedicated to preserving this flying history."

Collecting, restoring and flying vintage historical aircraft for more than half a century, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) ranks as one of the largest private air forces in the world. The CAF is dedicated to Honoring American Military Aviation through flight, exhibition and remembrance. Behind the Stearman roll-over at DCA from AOPA Pilot Blog: Reporting Points
By now, millions of people around the world have seen the ghastly video images of the gorgeous Stearman biplane locking its brakes and flipping over onto its back at Washington’s Reagan National Airport.
The high-profile gaffe took place during the promotion for Legends of Flight, a 3-D, IMAX movie that premiered Wednesday at the Smithsonian’s Air & Space Museum in downtown Washington, D.C., and provides an amazing, behind-the-scenes look at building the Boeing 787 “Dreamliner.” Although the movie promoters wanted to get attention by bringing the legendary Stearmans to DCA, this wasn’t the kind of attention that anyone who loves aviation was looking for.
Still, there are a couple of bright spots that no one who sees the infamous video should miss. ...

Fortunately there were no fatalities given the long holiday weekend. Another 10 B-36s parked at the Convair plant were also damaged. Some of the bombers were shoved on top of each other and many had lost wings, empannages, or large fuselage sections. Rocketman Breaks Jetpack Record In Death-Defying Stunt from Reggie Paulk
The Royal Gorge is a deep gash in the earth. It's sheer rock walls fall almost vertically over 1000 feet to the river below. Spanning the chasm is the Royal Gorge Bridge. Built in the 1920's this suspension bridge is the world's highest suspension bridge. Believe me, no matter how unafraid of heights you are, peering through the wooden slats to the river far below gives you the heeby jeebies. Jet-pack pilot Eric Scott of GoFast Energy Drinks flew 1500 feet across the canyon today to break the record for longest flight with a jet pack. To put it into perspective, the flight took him 24 seconds to complete--He had less than six seconds of fuel remaining when he touched down on the other side. Here's a video I made of the adventure:

Yanks Air Museum PB4Y Arrives in Chino from Warbirds Online by Ryan Keough
The latest coming in from the news hounds over at WIX (Warbird Information Exchange) involves the ferry flight of Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer (Bu No 66300) from Greybull, WY to Chino, CA for delivery to its new home at Yanks Air Museum in Chino. The aircraft formerly served with Hawkins & Powers in Greybull as a fire bomber as Tanker 124. The aircraft was one of a fleet of vintage fire bombers that were auctioned off in late 2005. It’s great news that the former H&P Privateers are finding new homes and are not meeting the fate of the scrapper. Though Tanker 124 will be a long-term restoration to bring it back to wartime condition, certainly the skilled craftspeople at Yanks are up for the challenge.
