Airpower Over the Midwest Air Show, is back at Scott AFB

Airpower Over the Midwest Air Show, is back at Scott AFB, featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds! The 2012 air show marks the 95th Anniversary of Scott AFB,  as well the 65th Anniversary of the Air Force.

Scott AFB started as a humble aviation station pre-World War II has blossomed during the years with a variety of missions to include flying training, radio operations, aeromedical evacuations. Now the 375th AMW supports 30 tenant units that include major commands for the Army and Air Force as well as the DoD.

It's been six years since the Thunderbirds performed at Scott, and many spectators are looking forward to see their amazing, high speed performance!
Joining the Air Force's high-powered, precision performance team are the U.S. Special Operations Command's Para-Commandos. The B-2 SPIRIT is also scheduled for a flyover.

From our past experience attending air shows at Scott we can highly recommend this event; every one we have dealt with were not only very professional but were friendly, showing great mid-western hospitality.

Make sure you attend the air show that gives you the opportunity to meet your servicemen and women who will gladly explain and demonstrate the missions of the United States Armed Forces. These are America's finest.

F-16s and B-52 Added as Flyovers at the 2012 Vectren Dayton Air Show

Dayton, Ohio – This weekend the Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger takes to the sky on July 7 & 8 at the Dayton International Airport.  Today Air Show officials announced the addition of two flyovers at the 38th annual event that will headline the US Navy Blue Angels.  Each day, two F-16 Fighting Falcons will perform a flyover and the mammoth B-52 Stratofortress will flyover on Saturday only.

The highly maneuverable F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft that has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack.  While sleek in size, the F-16 is no light-weight in strength. Being fully loaded with fuel, the Fighting Falcon can withstand 9 G’s (9 times the force of gravity), which exceeds the capability of other current fighter aircraft.  The F-16s appearing at the Vectren Dayton Air Show hail from the 112th Fighter Squadron of the 180th Fighter Wing at the Toledo Air National Guard Base.

The longest-serving bomber in U.S. military history, the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress will be hard to miss in the Air Show sky.  First flying in 1952, the massive B-52 sports a 185-foot wingspan complete with eight jet engines.  With a gross weight of more than 480,000 pounds, the Stratofortress is affectionately called “BUFF”, short for Big Ugly Fat Fellow.  Interestingly, the concept for the B-52 was developed in Dayton during an October weekend in 1948.  After an exhaustive weekend of work at the Hotel Van Cleve in Dayton, the Boeing engineers presented a plan that Monday which is essentially the same B-52 spectators will see at the air show.  With its long lineage, some of the B-52’s flown by Air Force pilots today are the grandchildren of early B-52 pilots. The Saturday B-52 flyover in Dayton will come from the 93rd Bomb Squadron, of the 307th Bomb Wing at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana.

Other Air Show performers include the USAF Heritage Flight,  a historic formation flight with an F-4 Phantom and a P51 Mustang; the Sea Harrier, a vertical takeoff and landing jet aircraft; TORA TORA TORA, an emotional reenactment of the bombing of Pearl Harbor complete with pyrotechnics; Michael Goulian, an acclaimed, high-energy aerobatic performer; P51 Quick Silver, a beautifully restored WWII fighter; Gene Soucy Air Shows, barnstorming and wing walking at its best; the Misty Blues, the world’s only all-woman skydiving team; and the A-4B Skyhawk, a Vietnam-era jet fighter.

Get discount general admission tickets now for the Saturday or Sunday show at over 100 Kroger stores in the Dayton-Cincinnati region.  Specialty seating available at www.daytonairshow.com.

The fly-past was about to disperse when pilots saw the microlights
Two microlights accidentally flew into the airspace of the Queen's birthday fly-past near Oxford, an air proximity report has revealed.
The small aircraft found themselves in the flight-path of 26 military planes.
It happened 10 miles north of RAF Benson last June. The pilots are thought to have made an error of judgment.
The Civil Aviation Authority said the actions of the military fly-past pilots had prevented a collision.
'Unsound airmanship'
The formation included six RAF Typhoons, four Tornados and a host of other RAF aircraft including C-17 transporters.
Airspace was restricted for 35 minutes, from the ground to 2,500 feet up, for the formation to pass through.

Real-life action hero Harrison Ford takes to the skies as pilot of his planes by Diamond Pilots on 11/20/09
By Daily Mail Reporter
He was no stranger to daring feats when he played intrepid adventurer Indiana Jones.
And even now - at the grand age of 67 - actor Harrison Ford is still up for a bit of action, as these pictures of him taking to the skies of California show.
The keen pilot flew two of his own planes today - a 12-seater Cessna and a bright yellow Aviat A-1C-20 - which he keeps at Santa Monica Airport.
The star takes his passion for piloting seriously - even becoming the face of an aviation industry campaign 'General Aviation Serves America', launched by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association earlier this year.
Ford began flying private planes in the 1960s but the pastime reportedly proved too costly and he was forced to drop his lessons. ...

WW2-Era Downsview Hangars to be Saved? by Diamond Pilots
For the first time in a very long time, a story about architectural heritage looks like it might have a happy - and relatively swift - ending. Nearly a month ago, two WW2-era airplane hangars on what was once an active air force base in Downsview began to be demolished, but thanks to their prominent location, they got noticed by the right people.
Built by De Havilland of Canada in the final years of the war, the two massive airplane hangars were once located among farms, miles away from Toronto's city limits, but today they're near the intersection of Dufferin and Sheppard streets, just south of the 401 and north of the Allen Expressway, just across the street from the Downsview terminus of the Spadina subway line. They're hard to miss, and it's no surprise that they caught the attention of Paul Oberman, a property developer notable for his willingness to take on and restore heritage properties.

Fat Albert's JATO Demo Going Away from Milcom Monitoring Post by Larry
There's nothing like solid rocket fuel bursting into flames to get an air-show crowd's attention.
The jet-assisted takeoff, or JATO, is a fan favorite at the annual Oceana Air Show, which takes place this weekend. But this is the final year you'll be able to see it.
The maneuver is performed by Fat Albert, the Marine-crewed C-130 cargo plane that carries the Blue Angels' gear. At takeoff, the crew fires eight rocket "bottles" that blast the mammoth plane 1,000 feet into the air in about 15 seconds - simulating a launch under hostile conditions.
Trouble is, the bottles date to the Vietnam War, and it costs about $16,000 to get one reinspected and approved for use, said Capt. Edward Jorge, one of the plane's pilots. The expense has become prohibitive.
"We're going to be very sad," he said. "But ya know, all good things come to an end."

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — On Aug. 6, 1944, John Anderson was on a bombing mission near Berlin when German anti-aircraft fire hit his B-17. The plane went into a spin. Aircraft Flying Over Sacramento Region September 5-14

Aircraft Flying Over Sacramento Region September 5-14 Military and Civilian Flyovers for Air Force Week and the Airshow

Sacramento County, CA - Military and civilian aircraft are expected tofly over the Sacramento region periodically from Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 14 in support of the Air Force Week and the2009 California Capital Airshow.

Operation of military aircraft may be noticeably louder than aircraft that regularly operate in the Sacramento region. Aircraft flight demonstration or aerobatic maneuvers are not anticipated during the week preceding the airshow. However, such maneuvers may be part of the arrival and practice sessions of the U.S. Air Force Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds.

All complaints related to aircraft noise should be directed to the Sacramento County Noise Office at (916) 874-0800. Please mention if the complaint may be related to military or airshow aircraft.

The fourth annual California Capital Airshow takes place at Mather Airport on September 12 and 13, 2009. This year's show is the culmination of Air Force Week in Sacramento, and features performances by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The airshow will also host a varietyof civilian aerobatic performers, vintage aircraft, warbirds and more. The exciting F-22 will also return to the region's skies during the 2009 event.

The California Capital Airshow is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporationcreated by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to promote and showcase the role aviation plays as an economic engine in the greater Sacramento region. The mission of the California Capital Airshow will, in part, be accomplished by giving back to the community through the awarding of scholarships for individuals interested in pursuing careersin aviation, aeronautics and aerospace.

Mather Airport is part of the Sacramento County Airport System, which is responsible for planning, developing, operating and maintaining the county's four airports: Sacramento International Airport, ExecutiveAirport, Mather Airport and Franklin Field. For more information on thesystem, visit
