Rocket Racing League Announces "Inaugural Show" from AVwebFlash Current Issue | As of Tuesday, the Tulsa Air and Rocket Racing Show is scheduled for April 24 at the Tulsa International Airport. Rocket racing came out most publicly, loud fiery and fast, at AirVenture Oshkosh, back in 2008 (see our July 29, 2008 introductory video, here) where early demonstration aircraft flew solo for the crowd. Tuesday, Tulsa's NewsOn6 reported that it had "learned Tulsa will be the first location for a race" but also wrote that the Tulsa Air and Space Museum "would not confirm the report." What the museum did confirm is that the April 24 event will "unveil a lot of new technology" and "some capability that the Rocket racing league will show publicly for the first time." As for the Rocket Racing League, its latest press release states that the city will host an "inaugural QuickTrip Air & Rocket Racing show."

AirPigz -  Low Level Aerobatics - 1986 Video Of The Late Great Bob Herendeen from airpigz.com | I'm finally getting around to converting several old VHS tapes into digital video so I can share some cool things from back in the day.  This video of Bob Herendeen is the first one that I've run thru a new method of conversion (my Concorde ride at Oshkosh 88 was the first I converted, but I did it a totally different way).  Bob Herendeen (1926-1994) was one of the nicest people I ever knew.  He was kind and considerate… a true gentleman.  But put him in a Pitts Special and he could really tear up the sky!  In fact, Bob had been one of the people that really made the Pitts Special so popular.  He had the first one used in aerobatic competition to have 4 ailerons back in the early 60's, and went on to be the U.S. National Aerobatic Champion in 1966 and 1969.  That's a pretty big deal…

Aviation Trivia of the Day by JP Santiago | With the Martin M-130 flying boat operating on Pan American's prestigious trans-Pacific route between San Francisco and Hong Kong, the airline in 1937 sought out newer and larger equipment to expand the Pacific network. Martin was the incumbent, having built three M-130s for Pan American that were christened "China Clipper", "Philippine Clipper", and "Hawaii Clipper." The M-130 served as the basis for enlarged derivative designated the M-156 which had essentially an M-130 fuselage mated to an enlarged wing with four more powerful radial engines and a twin-fin tailplane mounted on a pylon on the aft fuselage…
