Oshkosh DC-3 Formation At 40 from AVwebFlash Current Issue | Organizers of a mass arrival of DC-3s and C-47s at AirVenture Oshkosh this year now expect 40 aircraft to take part. The original goal was 25 aircraft making an hour-long flight from Rock Falls, Ill., to Wittman Regional Airport for a formation flyby at 1,000 feet to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first flight of the iconic aircraft. Organizers were deluged with requests to participate in the flight, which will be the largest formation of Douglases since the Second World War. The current record is 27, set in South Africa in 1985. There are 12 aircraft on standby to fill any slots that open up before the flight. Once in Oshkosh, the aircraft will be the centerpiece of festivities throughout the week including a one-of-a-kind heritage flight.

India Aviation 2010 air show: Day 1 - Tragedy and happiness from Bangalore Aviation by Devesh Agarwal | The Aviation India 2010 began on March 3rd with a bang. Along with political stars, state Chief Minister Rosiah, US Ambassador Timothy Roemer, French Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont, almost everyone in the Indian commercial aviation industry was present for the inauguration. Union Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. Prafaul Patel, Air India Chairman Mr. Arvind Jadhav, Jet Airway's Naresh Goyal, Saroj Dutta, and Sudheer Raghavan, Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya, SpiceJet CEO Sanjay Aggarwal, the Director General of Civil Aviation Dr. Nasim Zaidi, Boeing India head Dinesh Keskar, Airbus India head Kiran Rao, and I am sure I have missed out many names. Immediately after the inauguration ceremony tragedy struck the show. A four plane aerobatic formation of the Indian Navy Sagar Pawan team was demonstrating their prowess when HJT-16 Kiran Mk II tail number IN078 crashed five seconds after I took this photo. Commander S.K. Maurya and Lt Commander Rahul Nair were killed…

Aventura lives up to its name from General Aviation News by Meg Godlewski | "Once you get out onto the water, you won't want to come back," warned Bob Boswell, chief pilot and manager of Aero Adventure, Inc. He gives this good-natured warning to all who are considering becoming owners of the Aventura II, a boat-hulled amphibious Light Sport Aircraft. The name means "adventure" in Spanish. The "two" monicker comes from the fact it is a two-place design. The Aventura was one of a handful of amphib LSAs on display at last month's U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida. The pusher-prop taildragger got a fair amount of attention from those who wish to combine the worlds of sport pilot and float flying.

Wings Over Illawarra: the great air supply - Local News - News - General - Illawarra Mercury from http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/ | Memories came flooding back for one passenger who enjoyed a rare flight on the world-famous Connie at Wings Over Illawarra yesterday. The only flying Lockheed Super Constellation, Connie took to the skies at Illawarra Regional Airport carrying a selection of specially invited guests. Pauline Milton emigrated to Australia from England in 1948, flying out on a Super Constellation. Because of this, she was invited by the Historic Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) to hop on board yesterday morning. The half-hour flight was considerably shorter than Mrs Milton's first trip in a Connie. In those early days of aviation, the passage to Australia took five days. Travelling via Rome, Cairo, Calcutta and Singapore, the journey took even longer for Mrs Milton as passengers were delayed in Singapore for five days due to engine trouble.

Heeman's "Flying" Hovercraft from AVwebFlash Current Issue | New Zealander (he's half Australian) Rudy Heeman has, over 11 years, transformed his hovercraft into a wing-in-ground-effect vehicle, and now it's for sale. Heeman says he's found the ideal flight altitude under the vehicle's 7-meter wingspan to be about 1.5 meters, over flat water or land, where he reached a top speed of about 60 mph in a test. It will hop small bushes or short trees and, yes, Heeman has hit shrubbery with it (and continued to a safe landing). Theoretically, the pilot plus one vehicle can cruise at about 55 mph for roughly 140 miles. The project includes parts from six different cars, including what was originally a 1.8-liter Subaru engine, and a gas bottle from an old barbeque. Its wings consist of what appear to be a front and rear aluminum tube spar, foam/fiberglass ribs (four per side, plus an end rib) and zip-to-close fitted fabric covering -- all of which separate for storage/transport. The vehicle is controlled by rudder and elevator, actuated by a control wheel (no rudder pedals). The cockpit includes a GPS and engine gauges, but Heeman has included other creative refinements.

USAF Museum Series: Part 3 from A mile of runway will take you anywhere. by Steve | Today we continue the series, moving from the Early Years Gallery and the dawn of aviation into World War II and the Air Power Gallery. You'll notice that the first couple of photos are related to the Doolittle Raid on mainland Japan and I want to mention an important related event. On the weekend of April 16th thru 18th, the USAF Museum will be hosting a Doolittle Raiders Reunion. Many events are planned, including a dinner and an attempt to fly twenty-five B-25s in to the runway behind the museum. I hope that you'll consider making the trip to Dayton to attend this amazing event.

CoolPix - Airliners: A380 Preparing To Depart Oshkosh 2009 by Martt | Yeah, I know it's the second CoolPix entry for the A380 at Oshkosh 2009, but c'mon, having the mega-super-big-bus sitting on the ramp all week making lots of shade should definitely earn it several CoolPix awards.  Plus, I took this pic while the airplane was waiting to do its departure flight demo, so this is the A380 getting ready to say goodbye to Oshkosh 2009.  It's a special moment…
