Emmy winner at the Museum of the USAF

This coming Saturday marks the beginning of Black History Month.  As part of the celebrations, the Museum of the United States Air Force will be featuring the filmRed Tail Reborn on the big screen.   This Emmy-winning documentary tells the story of the WWII African-American combat pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen and their struggles to fight for opportunity.  In addition to their story, the film follows a group known as the Red Tail Project, and their hurdles to tell the Airmen's historic tale.  Narrated by Michael Dorn, the Red Tail Reborn was produced by Cleveland-based Hemlock Films and WNEO PBS; filmed nationwide.   Screenings will take place through the entire month of February in the Museum's state of the art digital theater.  Screenings are weekdays at noon, and on weekends at noon and 4pm.   Watch the film's teaser!   For more information about screenings, visit:   USAF Museum Venue       For more information, contact us at: info@hemlockfilms.com  (216) 496-5013

News & Notes November 2013 Doolittle Raiders' Final Toast WWII aviation heroes to meet Nov. 9 When the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders' make a final toast to their fallen comrades on Nov. 9 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, the world can witness the historical moment. Although the final toast ceremony is not open to the public, a LIVE feed of the event will be broadcast on The Pentagon Channel at 6 p.m. EST. A link to the LIVE stream will also be available on the day of the event at www.nationalmuseum.af.mil and www.af.mil. Other opportunities to celebrate these World War II aviation heroes that day include a grand arrival, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Doolittle Raiders memorial and a flyover of B-25 aircraft. In addition, the Air Force Museum Theatre is planning to show Doolittle Raider and World War II-themed films. Click here for more information about these activities. Presidential, R&D Galleries reopen   Galleries open Thursday-Sunday The museum reopened its Presidential and Research and Development Galleries on a limited basis beginning Oct. 24. The galleries were closed beginning May 1 as part of budget reduction requirements due to sequestration. Current resources will allow the galleries to be open from Thursday through Sunday. Free Family Fun on Nov. 16 Learn about the International Space Station  Commemorate the anniversary of the greatest engineering feat in modern history -- the International Space Station -- during Family Day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. This month marks the 15th anniversary of the launch of the first module of the space station and the 13th anniversary of a continuous human presence on this fascinating human outpost in space! Visitors will be able to learn about spaceflight, living in space, and rocketry through a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities, including building your own space station from recycling materials. Featured exhibit Boeing VC-137C SAM 26000 (Air Force One) Nov. 22, 2013, marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. SAM 26000, Kennedy's Air Force One, is on display in the museum's Presidential Gallery. He flew aboard SAM 26000 to Dallas, Texas, where he was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963 -- and it was on this airplane that Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the new president. B-25s will Mark the Final Toast of Doolittle Raiders

B-25s are coming!  B-25s are coming!  If Paul Revere were alive today that might be the message.   Grimes Field in Urbana once again is honored to be a part of Doolittle Raiders History.  November 8-9-10 there will be six B25s landing in Urbana.  Larry Kelley owner of the B-25 Panchito said “The Raiders have completed their final reunion bringing an end to probably the greatest tradition in the USAF.    The Raiders have decided to gather one last time as a group, to open the famous bottle of 1896 Cognac that was set aside by Jimmy Doolittle, and drink their final toast “To those that have gone”

These six B-25 crews will fly a Missing Man formation flight over the National Museum of the United States Air Force during an outdoor Memorial Ceremony honoring the Doolittle Raiders.    "It is an honor to have been a part of past celebrations and again for this final gathering. "  "This may very well be the last large gathering of B-25s to be seen in one location” said Kelley.

The B-25’s will begin to arrive Friday (weather permitting) and three will offer Rides to the public Friday afternoon through Sunday morning.    Rides will be available Friday afternoon, Saturday Morning until 10:30am, 2:00- 4:00pm, and again Sunday Morning.  The flight of B-25’s will take off for their historic mission around 12:15pm Saturday.

You possibly will never see this many B 25s together again!  If you missed your chance for a B-25 ride at a Doolittle Raiders event, and have regretted it, this will be your last opportunity!  Cost again will be $425 donations. , no gate admissions will be charged.  No advance Reservations.  Come relive the past and explore our preservation of history at the Champaign Aviation Museum   1652 N.
