Norton Schwartz has announced the dates and locations for the two Air Force Weeks to be held in 2010. The first Air Force Week will be held in New York City from Aug. 25th through the 29th, culminating with the two-day Coney Island Air Show that will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The second Air Force Week will be held in Cocoa Beach, Fla., from Oct. 27th through the 31st. A mission on March 11 proved it. A civilian pilot, low on fuel, and inexperienced with instrument flight, was literally lost in the clouds. He was able to make a safe landing after coaching and guidance from 442nd Fighter Wing A-10 pilots flying nearby. Maj. Steve Nester, a 303rd Fighter Squadron A-10 pilot was heading from Whiteman AFB to Springfield, Mo., on a routine training mission when he got word from fellow A-10 pilots Maj. Dax Hayes and Maj. Daniel Webster College Closing Flight Program  from AVwebFlash Current Issue | New Hampshire's private Daniel Webster College, known to some pilots only for its flight operations program, announced Wednesday that the program will come to an end. ITT Educational Services bought the college last year, fired then school president Robert Myers and brought in an ITT president to replace him. The school's Web site indicates with an asterisk that its Bachelor degree program in aviation flight operations "will be phased out over the next several years as the students who are currently enrolled in the program are allowed the opportunity to graduate within the normal timeframe for completion." The statement adds that no new classes will be started in the program, "effective immediately." The school's air traffic control and aviation management programs will continue, according to its new president, Nadine Dowling. Many of the school's current and former students are expressing their opinions online.

SpaceX achieved a 3.5s firing of its Falcon 9 rocket's nine Merlin first-stage engines in preparation for an April maiden flight. Orbital is looking forward to verification and acceptance testing of its Taurus II rocket's AJ26 engines at NASA's Stennis Space Center in Mississippi beginning in April, paving the way to a first flight in 2011.
