Air Racer Stiletto from www.aviationandspacearts.com
Number 84,Stiletto - In 1984, engine builder Dave Zueschel, with partner Dennis Schoenfelder, set out to build a highly modified P-51 racer for Dallas real estate developer Alan Preston. Dubbed Stiletto, the aircraft is created from various parts of different P-51 Mustangs as well as newly machined pieces, incorporating many unique features. To begin with, the familiar trademark belly scoop common to all Mustangs is removed, relocating the radiators to the forward edges of the wings. This echoed the changes made by Anson Johnson to his number 17 Mustang debuting at what was to be the final Cleveland Air Races that took place in 1949. ...

Americans may be among those in Nazi mass grave from Air Force Times - News
VIENNA — At least two mass graves containing dozens of people killed by the Nazis have been found on property used by the Austrian army, government officials said Friday. An army statement suggested some of the remains may be that of U.S. pilots shot down and imprisoned during World War II.
Police Col. Rudolf Gollia, an interior ministry spokesman, said his ministry plans talks with the owners of the site to discuss exhumation, adding it was not yet clear whether the army owned the property or was renting it.
The mass graves are located in bomb craters underneath an army sports field in the southern city of Graz. Officials said they contain about 70 bodies of victims killed by the SS to eliminate witnesses to Nazi atrocities shortly before Soviet troops arrived.
The graves were identified from wartime photos, made from U.S. bombers, showing open graves and bodies. U.S. authorities made the imagery available on request of Austrian historians tasked two years ago by Defense Minister Norbert Darabos with researching documented war crimes at the site, used by the SS during World War II. ...

Cormac Siegfried smiles after completing his solo glider flight.
Palo Alto, Calif. resident and Jordan Middle School eighth-grade student Cormac Siegfried made his first solo flight in a glider at the Pleasant Valley Airport in Peoria March 8.
For several months, he has been studying flight and taking glider instruction from his father, Rand Siegfried, a long-time pilot and flight instructor. His goal was to solo on his 14th birthday, the earliest allowed by the FAA. Weather in the Bay Area prevented him from doing much of his training there, so the family flew out to the Phoenix area in their classic Twin Beech for the last few days of practice and the ultimate test of proficiency: the solo flight on March 8, Cormac's 14th birthday.
"Cormac came through with flying colors," his father said. "He did such a great job. He is an excellent pilot."
