This opportunity is provided through a generous grant from the Norman Archibald Charitable Foundation, whose good works support many local social and educational initiatives. The foundation created in Mr. Archibald's name has completed more than 30 years of grant-making to charitable organizations within the Puget Sound region, giving over $12 million to qualified organizations such as The Museum of Flight. On Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m., aviation author, Boeing researcher and University of Washington Associate Aeronautics and Astronomics professor Dr. Scott Eberhardt discusses the performance and technology of World War I fighter aircraft in the Museum's J. Thursday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 20, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Museum's Wright Flyer is the subject of a Tip-to-Tail Tour with Docent Jerry Swearingen. "I'll Be Home For Christmas" is a World War II USO show featuring period and holiday music by the Alpha Singers, a local choral group, and comedy skits by Amazing Skies Theater.
Dr. Scott Eberhardt of Boeing discusses the performance and technology of World War I fighter aircraft in the Museum's J. Elroy McCaw Personal Courage Wing. Seattle authors Ed Davies and Steve Ellis present a program based upon their new book, "Seattle Commercial Aviation 1908 - 1941." The history of this plane and others in the Blackbird family of Mach 3 aircraft are explained by a docent during this tip-to-tail tour. Author David K. Bowman presents an overview of the theories of Amelia Earhart's disappearance, as described in his award-winning book "Legerdermain." Archivist David Bellarts, whose father was the last person to hear from Amelia and her navigator, will be in the lobby all day with artifacts and stories from the fateful flight.
