National Museum of the U.S. Air Force wins Air Force Heritage Award from National Museum of the USAF Top Stories
The National Museum of the United States Air Force was recently recognized with the 2009 Air Force Heritage Award by the USAF History and Museums Program for its "Warrior Airmen" exhibit.
Opened in December of 2008, the exhibit informs the Air Force and the public about the dangerous missions performed by USAF Airmen in Afghanistan and Iraq. Separated into three sections, the exhibit focuses on the efforts of the USAF Airmen -- both ground and aircrew -- who play an active and essential role in combat operations in the Global War on Terror. Made possible through uniforms, items and photos donated by Airmen who served in either Iraq or Afghanistan, the exhibit includes three dioramas with fully dressed and equipped mannequins, an audiovisual presentation on a 15-foot wide screen, and compelling firsthand accounts. Also incorporated in the exhibit is the recently acquired MH-53M helicopter, which saw 38 years of extensive service in Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The MH-53M is accompanied by interactive touch screens never before used by the museum.

The Seaplane Rating from Let's Go Flying by Steve Tupper
It's been something like 18 months since I completed what I consider to be my "core" training. By that, I mean the private pilot certificate and the instrument rating. The certificate and rating that make aviation practical and fun and give you the best initial set of capabilities.
Since then, I've decided to seek new opportunities and just have a bunch of fun. Part of that journey has been to figure out just how high, wide, and deep aviation is and figure out how much there is to explore. And, man, what a lot of ground there is to cover!

Brazilian RC helicopter cellphone delivery service busted from Engadget by Tim Stevens
What do you do when your cellphone-smuggling carrier pigeons get caught on their way to the big house? Why, you go higher tech, of course. Those texting-crazed Brazlian ultra-max prisoners hatched a new plot to fly a radio controlled helicopter up over the wall of a prison, dropping diaper-swaddled handsets into the awaiting hands of criminal non-masterminds on the inside. Unfortunately for them, police foiled the plan when they pulled over the accomplices on the outside, confiscating the chopper, a suite of phones, and arresting the four who were paid just $5,000 to get the plan airborne. Our suggestion for their next attempt? Jetpacks.
