Inaugural Los Angeles County Air Show Deemed a Huge Success and Gives Back to the Community

Show announces economic impact, confirmation of 2015 event and more

LOS ANGELES (April 24, 2014) – The Los Angeles County Air Show Board of Directors today announced that the inaugural event exceeded expectations and provided a significant boost to the local economy. Additionally, the proceeds from the event will fund several scholarships to regional youth and provide seed money for the 2015 Air Show.

“Based on the success of the show, the positive feedback from our guests and the overwhelming support of the community and our partners, the board has committed to making the air show an annual event,” said J.D. Kennedy, president of the Los Angeles County Air Show board of directors.

The boost to the local economy and outlying area was significant. Initial projections show $6.6 million in direct economic impact with indirect impact numbers currently being determined. A monetary stipend was also awarded to more than 20 local non-profit groups who provided assistance to the master concessionaire. In the near future, the Air Show board will announce the Los Angeles County Air Show Regional Scholarship Program and its application process for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the areas of science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) or aerospace.

The show welcomed more than 103,000 spectators over the two-day event at Fox Field with 26,000 attendees on Friday and 77,000 attending on Saturday.

“I’m very pleased with the success of the event, we’re thankful of the support from our sponsors and proud of the hard work our volunteers put in to make this event a success despite the unusually short notice we had to get the show off the ground,” said Dennis Dunbar, executive director of the Los Angeles County Air Show.  “We are all excited about having a whole year to work on improvements that will enhance guest experience and allow us to add several exciting elements to the show.”

The Air Show will work to enhance the event’s infrastructure and expand capacity for future shows.  Areas of improvement will include parking lots, additional restrooms and expanding spectator areas where crowds naturally concentrate.

“The development of this show was a long awaited event in a very special area of the world,” added Kennedy.  “We couldn’t be more proud of our local volunteers who worked tirelessly to bring a world class aerospace event to the Antelope Valley.  Not only did they help produce a safe and unforgettable air show, friendships were made that will last a lifetime.” 

The Air Show board is currently planning a volunteer appreciation event at Fox Field on May 15th where volunteers will close the books on the 2014 show and begin preparation for 2015. On May 17th, the board will also hold an event to thank the youth organizations that graciously volunteered their time and provided support including the JROTC, Civil Air Patrol, Explorers and Sea Cadets. 

The organization is also looking forward to supporting and participating in other community events throughout the year starting with the Poppy Festival this weekend where Air Show t-shirts will be available for the first time.

Unique P-51C Mustang Honoring The Tuskegee Airmen Coming To Los Angeles and Antelope Valley

The Squadron, a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that is part of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), completed two $1 million restorations of the Mustang, named Tuskegee Airmen. The second restoration was finished in 2009 and the airplane has been on the air show circuit ever since.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY AIR SHOW NIGHT AT THE HANGAR

LOS ANGELES (February 21, 2014) – The Los Angeles County Air Show, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be among the air show performers attending and addressing the crowd at the Los Angeles County Air Show Night at The Hangar.  Benefitting the Flight Test Historical Foundation, the event is open to the public beginning at 6:00 p.m., March 21, 2014 as a continued celebration of the inaugural Los Angeles County Air Show. Tickets are currently on sale and festivities will include a performance by the Jacob Nelson Band and conclude with a JetHawks fireworks display.

"The LA County Air Show is proud to offer this fantastic family event to the community in partnership with the City of Lancaster, the Flight Test Historical Foundation and the Lancaster JetHawks,” said J.D. Kennedy, president of the Los Angeles County Air Show.“Immediately following the Air Show this event provides a great opportunity to meet some of the performers and help support the mission of the Flight Test Historical Foundation."

Los Angeles County Air Show Announces Exciting Performer and Aircraft Line Up

LOS ANGELES -- The United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angles, will rock the skies of LA County headlining the Los Angeles County Air Show this March 21st and 22nd at William J. Fox Airport. Air Show fans at the inaugural event will be captivated by an array of exciting and thrilling jets, gravity-defying aerobatic performers and the rumble of historic aircraft.

“The Blue Angels performance is precision flying at its best, but the show certainly doesn’t stop there,” said Dennis Dunbar, executive director of the Los Angeles County Air Show.  “No matter what aircraft is screaming through the skies over Fox Field, it is always thrilling, but more importantly, it’s an experience – you get to see the aircraft, explore the planes both inside and out, and personally talk to the actual pilot or crew member of the airplane that literally just took your breath away. You won’t want to miss the inaugural Show.”

In addition to the Blue Angels, the Air Show will showcase thrilling jets, world-renowned aerobatic performers, warbirds, and vintage aircraft that will inspire both young and old to dream big.  Performers include (but not limited to):

Calling all volunteers!  The Airshow is looking for Antelope Valley’s finest volunteers to join the team for a weekend of hard work and a lot of fun.  The first volunteer meeting is set for January 14, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Lancaster High School in the theatre (44701 – 32nd Street West, Lancaster, CA  93536).  Volunteers will learn about what it takes to get involved, available opportunities, meet Airshow team managers, ask questions and get the inside scoop.  In order to volunteer, one must be at least 18 years old and available for a minimum of 8 – 10 hours both Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, 2014.  For additional information and/or to apply for a volunteer position please visit: http://lacountyairshow.com/volunteer-application-friday-saturday/. Los Angeles County Air Show Announces the Red Bull Air Force Will Rock the Antelope Valley

For Christmas procrastinators discount holiday ticket promotion launched today

LOS ANGELES (December 19, 2013) - The Los Angeles County Air Show today announced the addition of the Red Bull Air Force to its exciting performer line up along with a Christmas ticket promotion for last-minute gift-giving procrastinators. Tickets will be discounted online by 20 percent through December 25th at midnight (PDT).

The Show, scheduled for March 21-22, 2014, at William J. Fox Airport, will showcase thrill-seeking performances from the Red Bull Air Force including former two time Red Bull Air Race World Champion and five time U.S. National Aerobatic Champion, Kirby Chambliss, the Red Bull Air Force wing suit flyers, and Chuck ‘Malibu’ Aaron, known as a methodical risk taker and the first civilian ever to be licensed to perform helicopter aerobatics in the U.S. Aaron has also been inducted into the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and is recognized officially as a Living Legend of Aviation.

As part of the Red Bull performance, Kirby Chambliss will fly one of his explosive aerobatic routines in conjunction with the wingsuit flyers creating an aviation circus-like performance in the sky by some of the world’s top extreme athletes.
