Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team to visit Langley

LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. – The Royal Air Force’s Red Arrows aerobatic team is scheduled to perform for the first time here during the 2008 AirPower over Hampton Roads air show June 20-22. The Red Arrows were formed in 1965 and have flown in 53 countries, completing over 4,000 performances, according to their Web site. The display team includes nine Hawk T1 aircraft flown by pilots from frontline Royal Air Force squadrons.  The pilots perform a symmetrical diamond formation as their trademark.  Langley’s AirPower over Hampton Roads air show is a free event that will feature a variety of aerial acts and displays to give an expected 180,000 visitors an up-close-and-personal look at the U.S. Air Force.  Gates will open June 20 at 5 p.m. with a concert starting at 7 p.m., followed by a night air show and fireworks.  On June 21 and 22, gates will open at 9 a.m. The shows will include military demonstrations, such as the F-22A Raptor and the U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight, as well as civilian performers.  Many static aircraft will also be available on the ground for public photo opportunities, and children of all ages will have opportunities to get close to the latest Air Force aircraft.  Information on media opportunities will be forthcoming as the date for the event approaches.
