Flight Line Radio Makes WarBird Planes Talk.

At the Alpena Air Show (Wings Over Alpena) spectators received a special treat as they passed in front of the WarBirds on display. Flight Line Radio created audio zones around the various WarBird aircraft on display which included the B-17 “Yankee Lady”, the P-51 “Moonbeam McSwine”, a pair of V-22 Ospreys and the TBM-3E Avenger Torpedo Bomber “Ida Red.”
As spectators strolled down the tarmac they could change the channel on their credit-card sized personal receiver to hear an exclusive, pre-recorded loop which conveyed content of the respective aircraft on display.

Flight Line Radio is a service that allowed visitors at the Alpena Air Show to listen to the air show announcer, Hugh Oldham, the Air Boss, as well as the tower communication, anywhere on the grounds. “The idea of creating “talking aircraft” was discussed early on and was approved almost immediately. “Everyone viewed this as an opportunity to enhance a spectator’s experience at the show as well as to provide an educational component” stated Don Costanza, Director of Marketing for FLR Group. Phil Agius, Director of Finance for the Wings Over Alpena Show stated, “we really appreciated the value Flight Line Radio brought to our show. You were fantastic to deal with and your professionalism was evident all weekend long. Your product is a great addition to our show; we’re looking forward to WOA 2012 and more Flight Line Radio!”

About Flight Line Radio:

Go ahead…touch the prop from General Aviation News by Janice Wood | In most social settings the sight of a grown man wearing a cap with a spinning propeller on top of it would make women recoil in horror. But not at AirVenture. According to Jamie Till of Flight Line Radio, the cap seems to attract women, at least at air shows. "They want to touch the propeller," he said with a shrug. Till is happily married, but thinks that other men might benefit from wearing the colorful cap, which is why he and his partner, Don Costanza, are talking about pairing the propeller hats with the radios they sell at air shows so attendees can hear the announcers from anywhere on the grounds. The company also produces Flight Line Internet Radio, which General Aviation News regularly contributes to. Check it out at FlightLineInternetRadio.com. ===> Posted on August 3, 2010 by Janice Wood. Flight Line Internet Radio Continues to Grow

Internet radio makes big impression on the aviation industry as Flight Line Internet Radio surpasses 1,000,000 and continues to grow.
Flight Line internet Radio (FLiR), launched in October of 2008 is pleased to announce that they have exceeded 1,000,000 visitors to their website last month.

Flight Line Internet Radio is a radio station that caters to aviation enthusiasts. FLiR is a 24/7 internet based radio station that has a global reach, with various topical segments that will entertain almost anyone that enjoys flight.  The radio station follows a general format of a traditional local radio station, mixing topical segments with music and normal radio commercials.  The concept is to attract listeners because of their hobby or passion instead of their geographical location.

Flight Line Radio is a partnership of Jamie Till and Don Costanza.  Both Don and Jamie are Fort Wayne Indiana natives with diverse backgrounds and a passion for all things aviation related. They have been providing a unique radio service to many major venues such as “Airventure” and “The Indianapolis Air Show” as well as many other non-aviation events for over four years.

“We set out to build something that would compliment our core program as well as be interesting to aviation enthusiasts, something that could be the “background music” in their office, shop, or FBO.” states Jamie Till.  The station carries news and commentary from several prominent aviation podcasters, several specialty shows as well as articles from “GA News.”  “The Indy Transponder” is a daily contributor, providing top of the hour overviews of aviation entertainment news.

“We continually strive to forge new relationships with exciting content providers as well as furthering our long-standing relationships with those we currently work with. Our organization has been extremely thrilled by the response within the aviation community.  We are honored by the support given to us by the listeners and our contributors and we knew that this would be popular, but we had no idea that it would grow this big, this fast. The station has listeners from all over the world. It is pretty amazing. What is equally amazing is that it doesn’t show signs of slowing done.”  said Don.

Flight Line internet Radio surpassed 100,000 visitors in less than 4 months of operation and 200,000 two months later.  “We have reached a point now that we are comfortable with our capabilities and with the interest level from the aviation community.  We have attracted an audience that seems to be hungry for our product as well as a conduit to promote some very unique content from some very talented individuals and we think that advertisers will recognize the value of our service as well.” states Don.

Ripple Effects

I am always amazed at the ripple effects an accident creates in the aviation community. Whenever one takes place, if you don't know the people affected directly, you WILL know someone that was connected to them in some way. The common bond we all share is our love for flight. When we loosed brothers it leaves a hole. I didn't know the crews of the chopper or the C-130 involved in the accident on the west coast. However, a fellow contributor to Flight Line Internet Radio interviewed one of the crew members of the C-130. Shared with permission, his email is below. The Indy Transponder would like to pass along our condolences to the families and friends of both crews.

From Evan:

My friend Lieutenant Commander Che Barnes sadly died doing what he loved most: saving people's lives and flying. He and his crew were in a C-130 Hercules when there was a mid-air collision between them and a Marine helicopter off of the San Diego coast on 10-29-09 while he was on a search and rescue mission. Che was a really great person and I'm sure we will all remember him for what he did best. Che has flown numerous rescue missions and saved many people's lives, but sadly lost his own, along with his crew and 2 Marines.

The Coast Guard's motto is "Semper Paratus" which means Always Ready. The USCG Rescue Swimmers motto is "So Others May Live". All I can say is that Che risked his life proudly so others may live.

I'm going to miss him.

You can read my interview with him here.

When the National Championship Air Races start next month in Reno, you can expect to see the electric green Wasabi racer in the Formula One class. Just don't expect to see it zipping out to the front of the pack, or jockeying for position. On This Day In Aviation History: August 26th by Matt Molnar
1925, Farman Parker of Anderson, Indiana becomes the world’s youngest pilot to fly solo at the age of 13 years, 7 months, 17 days. The record would stand until 1983.

1929, the largest trimotor transport aircraft built by Fokker, the F.IX, makes its first flight. The same aircraft (PH-AGA) would be delivered to KLM a few months later.

1959, Jacqueline Auriol becomes the first woman to fly at Mach 2, while piloting a French Mirage III.

1959, the White House enters the jet age. After pressure from Secretary of State John Dulles (after whom the Capitol’s airport is now named) regarding the somewhat shoddy appearance of a US President arriving at international meetings aboard a prop while Russian dignitaries flew in aboard jets, the first VC-137B, a modified Boeing 707-120 airliner, enters service to replace the Lockheed Super Constellation formerly responsible for Presidential transport. Newer aircraft would subsequently take over President-carrying duties over the years, but this first jet, branded SAM 970, would remain in the Air Force’s Special Air Missions fleet until 1996, last being used to transport Vice President Al Gore.

1988, Mehran Karimi Nasseri begins what would be an 18 year layover in Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris. Believed to be the inspiration for the Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks film The Terminal, a chain of immigration bureaucracy and paperwork snafus prevent Nasseri from leaving the airport while en route to settle in London. Despite assistance from lawyers, he would not be able to legally leave the airport until sickness forces him out in July of 2006.

2003, the Columbia Accident Investigation Board releases its final report on Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.

2008, a Sun Air 737-200 carrying 109 passengers and crew is hijacked after takeoff of a flight from Nyala, Sudan to Cairo, and demand to be flown to France. The plane ends up landing in Libya, where the passengers would be released the next day later and the hijackers would surrender two days later.

Returning again this year to AirVenture, Flight Line Radio enhances the experience and increase the value to those attending. Flight Line Radio is a service that allows guests of the air show to move around anywhere on the grounds and stay connected to all of the action in the air.

Starting Saturday July 25, Flight Line Radio users will be able to listen in on the aircraft comms as well as receive special announcements. Later in the week listeners will be able to hear the air show announcers from anywhere on the grounds. Visitors to the show no longer need to stand in the hot sun just to be near a PA speaker, or have to carry a bulky expensive scanner to listen to the aircraft comms. Flight Line Radio allows patrons to watch the show from anywhere and still listen to all of the action.

Users will also be able to listen to EAA Radio Live as well as Flight Line internet Radio.

Flight Line internet Radio is a 24/7 aviation radio station featuring Aviation talk segments aero-tainment news and music.

The Fight Line Radio receiver is a lightweight credit card sized radio receiver that comes complete with earbuds, battery and a lanyard to hang around the neck. The batteries are replaceable and the receiver is reusable at many other venues.

The Flight Line Radio receivers are $15.00. The reusable receiver and replacement batteries are available at any of the EAA stores located on the grounds of AirVenture 2009. For more information visit www.flightlineradio.com.

At Flight Line Radio our primary purpose is to provide radio transmission services to the event industry.

Our goal is to enhance the experience of the spectator and to elevate the image of the sponsorship.

In October of 2008, Flight Line Radio expanded and launched a 24/7 aviation radio station Flight Line Internet Radio (FlightLineInternetRadio.com) which has become the premier source for aviation entertainment with a listening audience that spans the globe.
