Celebrate the Wright brothers during Family Day from National Museum of the USAF Top Stories
Commemorate the 106th anniversary of the world's first heavier-than-air flight by learning about the Wright brothers and their incredible invention during Family Day from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
Designed for children and adults of all ages, Family Day offers several hands-on opportunities for all to enjoy.
This month, visitors will be able to compare heavier-than-air flight to lighter-than-air flight by observing model (paper) hot air balloons being launched. This activity takes place in the Modern Flight Gallery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On a Sunday after her birthday, Duym said her grandson, Matthew Mukenschnabl, called and asked her if she wanted to go up in the plane for a ride. She jumped at the chance, as she was never afraid to go up in an airplane.
"You are up there and it is quiet," Duym said. "It is quiet for just a short time and you really feel closer to God there."
To prepare for her flight, Duym said she had to put a parachute on. Her grandson explained it was just in case of emergency, which brought disappointment as she thought she may be going skydiving. ...
