ICAS Says Record Year Likely from AVwebFlash Current Issue
With only two months remaining in the 2009 North American air show season -- as defined by the International Council of Air Shows, (ICAS) -- the 2009 season, "will see record attendance," according to ICAS. That means ICAS believes attendance figures for 2009 will be greater than any prior year. The organization projects figures show that 2009 attendance in the United States will be 20 percent higher than 2008, which itself saw a jump of roughly 13 percent over the previous year. For this year, ICAS president, John Cudahy says, "we’ve yet to hear from even a single air show with lower attendance than they had expected" and "most are reporting record attendance." ICAS is attributing the surge in part to the economic downturn forcing people to embrace the concept of the "staycation." Pursuing their own cause, ICAS notes also that attendance is down as much as 13% at certain popular amusement parks and that America's pastime, Major League Baseball. has seen a 6% drop-off in attendance. ICAS is projecting that by mid-November, some 16 million people will have attended more than 400 air shows in the U.S..

Airshow - Tonight is the annual airshow at the Hillsboro Airport, two blocks from our house. After living through 9 of these airshows, the novelty has really worn off on me - but the kids are just at the right ages to be really excited. Yesterday we got to see the Thunderbirds practice. Brandon was awed at the sight of them. They get so close to our house he thinks he can reach up and tickle the pilots. We went in after their practice and looked up how fast they fly. I found out they fly up to Mach 2…

Weekly Update - 22August to 28August from CAF Minnesota Wing Blog by Commemorative Air Force, MN Wing
Good Evening Everyone! Sorry for the short update. I am posting this late at night, as the end of another successful event winds down! We had a wedding at the hangar, and just closed up for the night. This week was fairly normal, nothing too extraordinary. The B-25 and the P-51 attended the Fargo Airshow. There were training flights performed in the small aircraft, getting pilots ready to begin a history flight program in them. Work around the hangar was on-going. The motor pool is also moving forward nicely. Stop by and see the progress on Wednesday or Saturday!!!Thanks for everyone's help and support!

Two hangars to the East is Lysdale Aircraft Service. In that hangar rests a piece of aviation history that's even less known than the Minnesota Wing! A one of a kind Hamilton Metalplane, in flying condition, is stored and maintained there. It was operated by Northwest Airlines, and is the last example of this aircraft in the world! Wednesday Gary Lysdale decided to run the aircraft up and take some pictures. Enjoy!
