Chicago Air & Water Show adapts to loss of Thunderbirds, other military acts - Chicago Tribune | Vintage aircraft and elite parachutists will slice through the skies above North Avenue Beach next weekend during the Chicago Air & Water Show, but it's not enough for Chris Connelly. Simsbury Fly-In Will Not Disappoint - Patch.com | Written and submitted by Bill Thomas, manager of Simsbury Airport | ...As with any Fly-In, much of the enjoyment is anticipating what airplanes might arrive for viewing. But none will disappoint. There are always antiques dating back to the 20's, many homebuilts, classics from the 50's, helicopters, light sport, and small warbirds. The car display is just as diverse, featuring everything from very old cars, trucks, fire engines and ex-military vehicles to exotics such as Ferraris. The Simsbury Fly-In features many additional attractions, including kids activities, aviation seminars, and flying demonstrations....

The Hartman & Hilt Show – Post Oshkosh Recovery – Episode 11  - WarbirdRadio.com | Recovering from EAA’s AirVenture is something like a hangover. Several noted pilots believe petting baby kittens and drinking water purified from the heat of volcanos is the only cure. For the rest of us, there’s the Hartman & Hilt – Post Oshkosh Recovery Episode.

Video: on board the Breitling Wingwalker stunt plane - ChronicleLive  | Strapped to the top of biplanes with only a small harness, the Breitling Wingwalkers stunned crowds at the Sunderland Airshow 2013 with an astonishing display of aerial acrobatics. The distinctive orange biplanes sped past the Sunderland coastline in front of thousands of spectators at the Sunderland Airshow 2013. The two lycra-clad gymnasts climbed to the top of the stunt planes in mid air and performed a dazzling routine as the planes swooped low above the crowds and went upside down.

Pilots to compete in aerobatic contest in Chatham-Kent - Chatham Daily News | Loops, rolls, spins and various combinations of those maneuvers is how Bill Ludwig describes precision flying. As a professional pilot, Ludwig has been participating in aerobatic competitions since 2006 and said it has added “a whole new level” to his flying experience. “Suddenly you’re flying in three dimensions rather than two,” he said. “It requires considerable discipline to fly an (aerobatic) sequence in the correct order, in the right direction.” Ludwig referred to precision flying as a cross between figure skating and platform diving, and it’s these complex plane aerobatics that will be coming to Chatham-Kent on August 23-25 at the municipal airport....

WIND STILL UNDER THE 'WINGS OF FREEDOM'

Middletown Air Show Will Go On Sept. 20-21

MIDDLETOWN, OHIO (Sept. 18, 2008) – "The show must go on." So says Rich Bevis, chairman of Middletown Aviation Foundation, organizer of Middletown Airport's first air show in over 30 years. Despite the disruption in power as a result of Sunday's storm, "Wings of Freedom" will take place, featuring dozens of war birds, top aerobatic performers, ground displays, along with a car show, military re-enactors, paratroopers and aviation-oriented kid zone.

Bevis notes, "Power was restored at 9 a.m. today, but we already had a big generator scheduled to take care of the vendors, which would have provided more than enough power for any other needs we may have had. We were determined not to let the community or our sponsors down," he says.

Among the scheduled acts: The B-17 "Flying Fortress" featured in the movie "The Memphis Belle;" precision formation flying team Scream'n Rebels in WWII era T-6 Texans; a P-51 Mustang; and a tactical demonstration by a MiG-17 Fresco Vietnam war jet fighter. Other "war birds" expected to participate: A TBM Avenger; BT13 Valiant; T-28 Trojan; Cessna O-2 Skytrain; Nanchang CJ-6; 179AW Mansfield: C-130; Sikorsky MH-53 Sea Dragon and MH-60 Pave Hawk. There also will be a flyover (Saturday only, 12:30 p.m. EST) of a C-5 Galaxy, the largest aircraft in the U.S. Airforce.

In addition, there will be six top aerobatic performers including pilot Brett Hunter flying a Magnum Pitts S2C, Cliff Robinson barnstorming in his 450 Stearman biplane and Jay Hodge in a Russian Yak-52. Other acts include Emerson Stewart (Citabria) and John Black in a SuperDecathlon. There also will be military re-enactors, a commemorative D-Day paratrooper performance, ground displays of a variety of different aircraft and a car show. Kid zone will feature a climbing wall and inflatable slides along with "Top Gun" photo ops and dog-fighting flight simulator.

The Middletown Aviation Foundation is a non-profit organization created to support regional aviation and contribute to the community and the economic engine of Middletown and surrounding regions through the creation of community events at Middletown Regional Airport and other venues.

To purchase tickets visit the airport at 1707 Run Way. For more information about the show, call Rich Bevis at (513) 217-4777 or visit www.middletownaviation.com.

Flying Heritage Collection (P-51s, Bf-109, others) from Military Photos by Hellfish6
Last weekend I went up to Everett and checked out the Flying Heritage Collection and the Museum of Flight's restoration facility. Pretty interesting stuff they had there - I got to experience a flyby from three P-51s and a Bf-109 and got to check out a lot of other rare things. Interesting to note that all of the Flying Heritage Collection's aircraft, save the Me-163, I imagine, are flight worthy and are flown pretty frequently.
