DRAGON AVIATION ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCHING OF THEIR NEW WEB SITE

Andy Anderson, President of Dragon Aviation announced today that the new web site for their jet team RED STAR AND THE DRAGON was live.

“After nearly eight years of the old site we felt it was time for a change and a new look. Additionally with all of the negativity in our industry with the military cancellations we thought it would be a good idea to show the industry that some of us are not going to be reactionary, but rather we are pro active and forging ahead, we will get through this tough time and for many, we will be stronger for it,” stated Andy in a recent interview.

“The new site has a clean fresh upbeat look to it and is much easier to navigate; in addition we have added our contract requirements as well as a short history of the Red Star and the Dragon aircraft,” added Jerry Conley Andy’s partner and pilot of the Red Star.

I read a moving blog post on Caring Bridge today from Jennifer Henley. So, rather than steal her thunder- I'm just going to share it:

I just got done watching a video done by Mark Magin for an airshow that our friends are putting on to help support Alan and I'm crying my eyes out. We are very blessed to be a part of an industry that is so much more than just about flying. It's a family. I cannot thank each of the performers enough who have offered to participate in this event. We love you all so much and honestly it's hard to write because I'm crying so hard but I want you all to know how much we appreciate you, how much we value our relationships with you and how much we love you from the bottom of our heart.

Deadline is May 31 for entry! I’ve procrastinated getting the Lanciar going for months now, so I’ve got to crank it up. Sometimes you need a better excuse to participate in the flying game besides “100 dollar hamburgers”. One of the racers at a past AV-Cup race said that air racing “gave his airplane a mission”. I now have a mission, to get the Lancair back in the air and go after the gold!
This year the race will be from Mitchell SD to Lomira WI, just south of Oshkosh (ignore the info on the AVC web site about Dayton, that was last year and the web site hasn’t been updated).

Departed Westbound - Jim Siemens from DailyAviator by Dennis Collins
We just got back from the “Red Onion” the local bar and grill nearest AZ82, Mogollon Airpark, where we hoisted a few in honor of friend, neighbor, pilot and great aircraft mechanic Jim Siemens, who died last week from natural causes. Jim was one of the nicest people here at the airpark. He spent time up here in the cool pines at 6600 feet during the summer, and winters in Yuma Arizona, where I believe he once owned the Harley Davidson dealership. Jim built two airplanes that I know of, a Lancair 320 and a Rotorway Helicopter. And he also spent considerable time in the 1990’s restoring the Aeronca “City of Yuma” to flying condition, a record breaking airplane that set a worlds record in 1947, flying non-stop for 46 days. He will be missed by a whole airpark full of friends.

One look at the controls in the cockpit -- air speed indicator, artificial horizon, altimeter, direction gyro and turn coordinator (among many, many other bells and whistles) -- was more than enough to shake me from my "Top Gun" daydreams. This was apparently a basic, bread-and-butter plane, according to my guide for the day, Chief Flight Instructor Pat Gaston of Montgomery Aviation in Zionsville. The ride would be gentle, he said, not turbo-charged. The plane would be a docile beast -- forgiving and user-friendly. Like a Chevy. But it wasn't a Chevy, of course.

One thing I try to get across to the kids is that even though I didn't consider myself very good at math or science - I have a BA in History - these are things I have to know to be a pilot. It's a great motivator to know you will be able to go fly if you just get through the basic building blocks. So don't rule out any careers just because there's an aspect of it you don't like. The rewards will be great.
