2014 CULPEPER AIR FEST TO FEATURE POTOMAC FLIGHT "AN HISTORIC FLIGHT OVER WASHINGTON D.C. HONORING OUR NATION'S VETERANS"

CULPEPER-VACulpeper Air Fest will serve as a home base on Friday-October 10 for the ground-breaking Potomac Flight, a unique flyover of Washington D.C.'s greatest landmarks including the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery.  This once-in-a-lifetime flight will feature the North American T-6 Texans - a 2 seat aircraft used as the advanced trainer for World War II pilots. Designed by North American Aviation, Inc., and first flown in 1938, the "Texan" quickly became the most popular trainer aircraft for the U.S. Military in the 1940's and 1950's.  Over 15,000 "Texans" were built between 1938 and 1947, and approximately 400 are still flying today.  On October 10 approximately thirty of these "Texans" will launch from Culpeper Regional Airport and will soar in formation down the Potomac River.  The flyover in the skies over the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery will be in honor of Disabled American Veterans as a visible and fitting tribute to the services and sacrifices veterans have made for our freedom.  This ceremonial formation flight will be visible from Alexandria, Arlington and Rosslyn, VA.  An extremely limited number of opportunities to fly in the formation are available to event sponsors. HISTORIC FLIGHT TAKES PLACE AT CULPEPER AIR FEST

On October 7th an historical formation flight took place over the skies of Culpeper Virginia. For the First Time a Percival Provost owned by Air Fest Director Michael Dale was flown in formation with a BAC 167 Strikemaster owned and flown by Andy Anderson from the jet team of Red Star and The Dragon.

The significance of the flight is that the Percival Provost, a radial engine prop trainer aircraft, was the first model in the Provost line of aircraft designed and built by the British Aircraft Corporation and the BAC 167 Strikemaster, a jet powered attack aircraft was the last model in the line. Michael sat in the right seat of Andy’s Strikemaster and witnessed his Provost as it was flown by Michael’s friend Mike Hogan in formation, Michael trained and flew the Provost while he was a pilot with the RAF. It has been 58 years since he had been in formation with a Provost. His ride in the Strikemaster completes the circle of flying in the first and last model of the Provost line.

“It was a moving experience to be in formation with a Provost again after almost 60 years since my training in the RAF. It brought back a lot of warm memories of my youth and I am most grateful to Andy, Linda and Jerry for the opportunity to re live a little of it" said Michael Dale after the flight.

September 30, 2010 – The Oxcart Legacy Tour panelists, Mike Schmitz, and Connie Pardew arrived at CIA Headquarters for a facilities tour, no-host lunch in the cafeteria, and photo session in the CIA Seal. Toni Hiley provided the panelists with a very enlightening tour of the CIA museum. At 1430 hours, the group gathered for the final panel presentation to CIA workforce in the Bubble auditorium. The event was closed to the Public, however Peter DeForth, Dr. Robarge, and Toni Hiley arranged a photo shoot for tour guest Annie Jacobsen and Roger Andersen's guest, Linda Cady before the arrival of the panelists. Panelist Dr. Bob Abernethy departed the panel after two days and for this last panel former Lockheed test pilot Bill Weaver joined the tour.
Billed as -- "CIA's A-12 OXCART: A Legacy of Unmatched Innovation", all the panelists participated in the fifth and final panel presentation in the CIA's Auditorium ("The Bubble") at CIA's Headquarter s complex off of Dolley Madison Boulevard in McLean, Virginia. Presentation included a panel presentation moderated by Dr. Robarge, slideshow and videos. Event Coordinator was Toni Hiley, CIA museum staff. The panelists loved the CIA theme song to the beat of the Village People's YMCA song. Barnes said it compares to the Mickey Mouse theme song he and his fellow Lowly Smacks sang as they returned from class to enter the OCS Robinson Barracks at Fort Sill back in the 1960s.
