Hoppers Video Ready to Launch!  from Airspeed by Stephen Force (Steve Tupper)  I finally had the opportunity on Saturday to finish editing the video that I shot while embedded with The Hoppers at the Battle Creek Airshow and Balloon Festival July 1-2 this supper. The team flew seven cameras and one audio unit on each of two performance hops. How to Fly the B-17 Flying Fortress  from AviationChatter.com by Pat Flannigan | “Maybe airplanes are a bit like people. You don’t really get to know them until after you’ve lived with them a while.” At least that’s what the narrator says in this 1943 Army Air Force training film. Even though this video and the associated technology is over 70 years old, a lot of the information is still relevant to pilots today. They stress the importance of checklist usage, reminders to trim the airplane and even crew resource management…

Video: MythBusters Prove Advanced Aerodynamic Duct-Tapelogy  by Martt |  I put a post up almost 2 years a go on the Alaskan story from 2009 about a bear that ripped up a Super Cub... and how the pilot fixed it well enough to fly it back to home base with a boatload of of duct tape. And now, the MythBusters are doing their part to see if this story is confirmed, plausible or busted! ...

Duct Tape Airplane On Mythbusters  from AVwebFlash Current Issue | Can an airplane covered with duct tape actually fly? That question seems to have already been answered in 2009 by an Alaska pilot who fixed significant bear damage to the fuselage and tail of his Super Cub with the fabled repair-all and reportedly flew it away, presumably toward a more permanent solution…

Full-time pilots enjoy flying as hobby - Mywesttexas.com: Life
Even though Lance Sommers' job requires him to fly planes regularly, he can't help but grin as he starts up the engine of a North American SNJ.  The "old planes" parked in the Commemorative Air Force's hangar fulfill a childhood dream for Sommers, who took his first flight from Andrews to Seminole the day after he was discharged from the hospital as a newborn. He grew up in a flying family; his two grandfathers and father all had piloting licenses. Planes have been a part of his life as long as he can remember. ...

The pilot with the smoking gun from Letters from Flyover Country by Bob Collins | There aren't a lot of people in the world who have been war heroes, created a high-flying business, and uttered the words that would bring down a presidency. Ken Dahlberg was one of them.  His obituary is tucked quietly in the Star Tribune today.  As a World War II fighter pilot (Barry Goldwater was one of his flight instructors) , Dahlberg was one of the war's "aces," with 14 1/2 "victories." He won the Distinguished Service Cross for leading a flight of 16 P-47 Thunderbolts against 70 German Messerschmitts, shooting down four of them. He was shot down three times and ...

Unfinished work - Ken Dahlberg died today from WWII & Korean Conflict Airplane Profiles by
JSM | Ken Dahlberg - entrepreneur, leader and WW2 fighter pilot died today.  He was 95 years of age
and ended a life of accomplishment that few people will ever approach.  When I heard the news this morning, my first thought was to hurry up and post the finished work of his P-47 fighter. But I think I'll wait - there's an ironic lesson to be had.  My experience with the man was momentary.  Years ago, Joe Foss suggested I call him, gave me his phone number...and I made the dial.  Ken and I talked for maybe ten minutes and I made plans to get in ...
