Visiting aircraft, Fledgling biplane restoration debut,
vendor booths, food stands and more
Hammondsport, NY - August 14, 2013 - The Curtiss Fall Flying Festival will provide fun for the entire Seaplane 2012 family on Saturday, September 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Depot Park in Hammondsport. The event is free to the public.

The traditional Glenn Curtiss Salute will take place at 2 p.m., when the visiting planes will fly up Keuka Lake, over the Village of Hammondsport, the Curtiss Museum and the Glenn Curtiss gravesite.

Attractions throughout the day include:
  • Visiting seaplanes from the Finger Lakes region and beyond
  • The public debut of the museum's 1929 Curtiss Fledgling restoration project. This 39-foot wingspan biplane will be on display with its 1927, 170HP Curtiss Challenger radial engine.
  • Demonstrations of the Curtiss Museum's OX 5 engine, an early V-8, liquid-cooled aircraft engine built by Curtiss. The OX 5 powered the Curtiss Jenny and was the first U.S.-designed engine to enter mass production.
  • Curtiss Museum Gift Shop booth, featuring many new items, as well as other vendor booths and food stands
  • Children's activities, including photo opportunities with the Museum's child-sized Curtiss Pusher plane and games set up and run by the Boy Scouts.
  • An opportunity to meet former Naval aviator Christopher Harmer, who logged approximately 3,500 hours of flight time, primarily in the SH-60F/HH-60H helicopter.
