CZECH MATE - Aviation Airshow Air Race Photography Discussion
... Gotta say, that I've always had a thing for this little Super Yak, ever since the day the late & great Bob Yancey first brought her down to race at Reno in 1987 as Race #101. What a treat to be able to still enjoy watching this same bird consistently compete in the Unlimited Class Championship events as Race #86. Pilot- Sherman Smoot, is one of the best sticks out on the racecourse today, in my humble opinion, and I know many will agree. N5943, more than any other Unlimited, has that authentic look of a real- 'Golden Age'/Cleveland-Era Thompson Trophy racer to tie-in with modern 400+mph Unlimiteds. ... [photos]

The Reno Air Races - sportsmania
I call The Reno Air Races the "warbird" fan heaven because to me and a lot of other fans, that's exactly what they are. The Reno Air Races are usually held the second or third week of September and last for a total of five days. There are six classes of planes that race, but by far the most popular class is the "Unlimited" class. They call it "Unlimited" because there are only two requirements of the airplanes entered; they have to have a piston engine and they have to have a propeller. As long as these two requirements are met, what the pilot can do to modify the plane is unlimited. ...

Kaman K-16B from The Unwanted Blog by admin
Artwork and an old photo of the Kaman K-16B VTOL testbed. Built in the mid '50's, this little tiltwing airplane based on a Grumman Goose was hoped to achieve VTOL performance with the aid of the Kaman-invented "Rotaprop" props which had articualted flaps. As it happened, the plane never flew (I believe it did some tethered tests, not sure if it got airborne). ...

170 Flies and Texas Antique Fly-In from Another Time by Dan Linn
Took off early Saturday morning on the 170s first post paint and post annual flight. After a once around the patch I checked it over. All was well so launched off to Gainesville for the Texas Antique Fly-In. Very low attendance but fun to see a few new ships. For a few pictures from the event click here. Highlight of the event for me was seeing the Fairchild 24. Nice restoration of a 1947 TEMCO built ship. The day heated up fast so I flew home before lunch. Feels good to have the 170 flying again. Great outing to see some vintage flying machines.

Road Trip #1: Low flying DC3's from Rodney's Aviation Ramblings by Rodney
I've been on a bit of a road trip last weekend - nothing really to do with aviation, but I did manage a few photos that might be on interest.
The first are of two "low flying" DC3's. The first is at Mangaweka International Airport, and is painted in the Cookie Time scheme. The second is at a McDonald's in Taupo. I didn't get up in to the Cookie Time aircraft, but I did get a couple of [dark] photos through the perspex of the McDonald's one. Sad to see a DC3 reduced to providing a place for kids to eat their junk food...
