Fairchild Airshow from Technorati
This weekend we headed over to Fairchild Airforce Base for Skyfest 2008. It was a perfect day, and we had so much fun! The weather was awesome, 80 degrees and breezy, and all the kids were fantastic. Some of us were anxious to get there very early, (something tells me that mom would have gone the night before) so we arrived at about 11:00. We were able to see many amazing things, F-14's, F-22's, and the Blue Angels to name our favorites. Thanks for letting us know about it Mom! We had lunch out

Lightning freezes Wittman tower elevators from The Oshkosh Northwestern Latest Headlines
A lightning strike near the new Wittman Regional Airport air traffic control tower has shut down elevators to the towers operations deck. Wittman Regional Airport Director Peter Moll said a lightning strike somewhere near the tower fried electronics on the elevators during a heavy storm during the early morning hours of Aug. 4. The $4 million tower opened in July, just before the Experimental Aircraft Associations AirVenture 2008 began and was fully operational until the lightning strike the day after the convention concluded. Moll said the towers general contractor, Miron Construction, and Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics engineers are investigating the problem, which did not affect any other systems in the tower. Until the problem is fixed, Moll said, tower staff have to use the stairs.

Fun Flyer Lands Roll in new Amelia Earhart Film from Jetwhine by Scott Spangler
If time is short, never ask Dick and Sharon Starks what they've been up to lately. Both pilots, these retired schoolteachers have a full flying life that any pilot would envy. Anxious to see Sharon's new airplane, a Morane Model L parasol, I learned it played a supporting role in a new movie about Amelia Earhart, now filming in Ontario, Canada. ...

Best Audio Program, EVER! from PropBlast by mjg
...That being said, I was seriously moved by a segment of the Airspeed Online podcast that I listened to recently. However, I'm one who can easily "willingly suspend disbelief" and, as a result, find myself getting wrapped up in the emotions of a movie or an audio drama. Lori calls me a sap for this reason so I figured I'd try this piece out on her. She's a pretty tough nut to crack but even she admitted to getting "choked up" listening to Fingers in the Airport Fence Entwined. I was pretty proud of her that she got most of the aviation references; she only had a hard time visualizing the various airplane types mentioned. ...

Bed Made of DC-9 Fins Lets You Join Mile High Club at Sea Level [Mile High Bed] from Gizmodo by Kit Eaton
A chair made of torpedo-launcher parts just wouldn't say "come hither" to techy ladies in the same way as this bed from Motoart. Dubbed Mile High, you can tell it's aimed at the sexier end of the geek furniture market, partly as it's marketed with a "a wonderful playground for you and your co-pilot" slogan, and especially when you notice the line of glowing red LEDs that pimp the frame's lower edge. The 11- by 7.5-foot bed is made of two DC-9 stabilizer fins and a C-130 inner flap. And if there's a particular aviator you want to attract between the sheets, you'll likely have to save up: it's price on application only, which generally means lots of dollars. [MotoArt via TFTS]

Abbotsford AirShow 2008 pics from Technorati
Anna, Claire, and I made a last-minute decision to go see the Abbotsford International AirShow today. We all had a lot of fun watching the planes and just enjoying the warm (but not too sunny) weather. At first Claire was a bit frightened by the loud sounds of the jets but quickly got used to all the noise. Kids under 6 get in free so we'll have to go again next year when Claire's 5. I actually took a lot of photos but these stand out as favourites. ...
