Team 60, the official display team of the Swedish air force, has become the latest victim of the budget crunch facing the Swedish armed forces. The team, equipped with six Saab Sk 60 side-by-side-seating jet trainers, has been grounded for the whole of 2008, it was announced this week. Team 60 has been in existence since 1974. The formation is based at Malmen Air Base outside Linkoping, the city that is also home to Saab Aerospace, the original manufacturer of the Saab 105 jet trainer which is known as the Sk 60 in Swedish military service. At Malmen, the pilots and ground crew that form Team 60 are associated with the Swedish air force Flying School that uses the Sk 60 for advanced pilot training as well as initial weapons and tactics training. According to the headquarters of the Swedish armed forces, no decision has been taken on the team's activities in 2009.
