MOBILE ‘BIG’ SCREEN THEATER AND EXHIBIT HONORING TUSKEGEE AIRMEN TRAVELS TO CAPE GIRARDEAU REGIONAL AIRPORT

Cape Girardeau, MO (June 25, 2013) – The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Red Tail Squadron’s RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit will be at the Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on June 27-29, 2013. The public is welcome to experience the Exhibit for free with paid admission to the Air Show on Friday evening beginning at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit is a truly unique opportunity for the young and the young-at-heart to not only learn, but experience the inspiring story of the Tuskegee Airmen while being immersed in a theatrical experience.

During the original movie aptly named, "RISE ABOVE," audience members will be transported into what it was like to be a black airman during WWII and the obstacles faced by America’s first black military pilots and their support personnel, known today as the Tuskegee Airmen, as they worked toward their goal of becoming U.S. Army Air Corps pilots in the early 1940s. At the conclusion of the film, audiences experience the excitement and thrill of flying the world’s greatest fighter aircraft, the P-51 Mustang, in formation, aerobatics, a break and a few low passes. Filmed with a 180-degree lens along with the state-of-the-art theater design, the movie experience gives attendees the feeling that you are actually flying in the airplane.

“The exhibit is truly a one-of-a-kind adventure similar to something you would experience at Disneyland,” said Brad Lang, CAF Red Tail Squadron Leader. “The overall message is about rising above adversity to reach your potential no matter your circumstances; the film uses the story of the Tuskegee Airman and the story of the Red Tail Squadron to inspire young people to achieve their potential, but the message resonates with all ages because of the unique and interactive way it is told. This is an experience you won’t want to miss.”

The exhibit is a mobile ‘big screen’ theater and exhibit with a customized 53' trailer with expandable sides that houses a 160-degree panoramic curved movie screen and seating for 35 in climate-controlled comfort. The exhibit showcases a short original movie, "RISE ABOVE," focusing on what the Tuskegee Airmen had to overcome to be allowed to fly and fight for their country during World War II. The Exhibit reflects the CAF Red Tail Squadron's educational mission of showing guests, especially young people, amazing possibilities. This experience highlights how to set a goal and succeed even when all odds are against you; just like the original Tuskegee Airmen achieved. The Squadron has distilled the Airmen's experiences into six guiding RISE ABOVE principles to help with this mission:
  • Aim High
  • Believe In Yourself
  • Use Your Brain
  • Never Quit
  • Be Ready To Go
  • Expect To Win
About the CAF:
In 1957, a small group of ex-service pilots pooled their money to purchase a P-51 Mustang, beginning what is now called the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). With the addition of a pair of F8F Bearcats, the CAF became the founders of the Warbird Movement, an effort to preserve and honor our military history with the rallying cry to “Keep ‘Em Flying!” Now, 55 years later, the CAF is the premier Warbird organization, operating 156 vintage aircraft in Honor of American Military Aviation. A non-profit educational association, the CAF has more than 10,000 members and itsfleet of historic aircraft is distributed to 80 units located in 24 states for care and operation. For more information, visit www.commemorativeairforce.org or call (432) 563-1000.

Historic Tuskegee exhibit and aircraft to join lineup

Dayton, Ohio – Officials at the Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger announce today that discount general admission tickets are on sale at all Dayton/Cincinnati Kroger stores, the exclusive advance ticket outlet for the Vectren Dayton Air Show. Patrons will enjoy a $3 savings for adult, senior citizen and child tickets purchased at Kroger. This means that advance adult tickets are available for $17 while senior citizen and child advance tickets are $12 at Kroger.

Air Show representatives proudly announce the first time appearance of the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit, an inspiring display about the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first black military pilots and crew in the U.S. military. Sponsored by the Texas Flying Legends Museum and the Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron, the RISE ABOVE exhibit is a one-of-a-kind, custom-trailer that creates a 30-seat theater with a 160-degree panoramic screen. Spectators will sit in this climate-controlled theater and watch the inspiring story from the 1940’s of how the Tuskegee Airmen overcame many obstacles to achieve their dreams of becoming the first black pilots in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In addition, spectators will also experience the exhilarating sensation of what it’s like to fly the P-51 Mustang.

Along with the RISE ABOVE exhibit, the Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron will also bring their P-51C Mustang “By Request” that will both fly during the show as well as be part of the Tuskegee exhibit. The storied P-51 fighter was a game-changer for the U.S. forces during WWII. The Tuskegee pilots flew red-tailed P-51s during WWII, hence the name “Red Tail Squadron”. “By Request” was the dream of Commemorative Air Force member, Don Hinz, who felt the P-51 should be restored to draw attention and tell the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, and the Red Tail Project was born. The name “By Request” honors Benjamin O. Davis Jr., who was a member of the first class to graduate from flight training at Tuskegee. Davis led the 332 nd Fighter Group during WWII and eventually became the first black general in the U.S. Air Force. He named his Mustang “By Request” because white pilots would request Tuskegee Airmen to escort them during WWII.

"We’re honored to host the RISE ABOVE exhibit for the first time in Dayton," stated Michael Emoff, United States Air and Trade Show Board of Trustees Chairman. "The Tuskegee Airmen are an important part of our history," he added.

The P-51 “By Request” joins a blockbuster lineup for the 2013 Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger. In total, there will be 15 feature attractions in the air and a host of ground display aircraft and interactive exhibits. Flying attractions range from award-winning aerobatic great Sean D. Tucker to the only flying B-29 Superfortress in the world, "FIFI", to a first ever demonstration of the MiG-17. Spectators will also enjoy the AeroShell Formation Aerobatic Team and the "Great Wall of Fire" just to name a couple more. Visit the show website at www.daytonairshow.com for a complete lineup and ticket information.

The Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger is produced by the United States Air and Trade Show, Inc, a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit Ohio Corporation that relies on sponsorship and community support to offset the cost of producing the event. The Dayton/Montgomery Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates that the show has a $3.2 million annual economic impact on the region.
