Fun With Photos: 5 Engines on a Qantas Boeing 747-300 from Airline Reporter by David Parker Brown | Why would this Boeing 747 need a 5th engine? This is not a photo shop, but a photograph of a Qantas Boeing 747-300 with a little extra cargo — a 5th engine. When a Qantas airplane needs a replacement engine or to have one worked on, sometimes they will attached the 5th engine onto a Boeing 747 and fly it without power to its destination. This ends up being more cost effective for the airline. The 5th engine will limit the 747's performance (not that it is known for its sporty maneuvering already), but it provides no additional safety risk. There is also a photo of a Qantas Boeing 747-400 with a 5th engine.

This year also marked the airport's 65th anniversary. New for 2010 was the participation of Julie Clark. Clark was one of the first women to fly for a major airline back in 1977. Boeing Saves Lockheed Constellation from AVwebFlash Current Issue | A Lockheed Constellation whose history includes flying in Canada, life as a restaurant in Toronto and twenty years left alone in the woods has found salvation and a new life at Boeing Field's Museum of Flight in Seattle, Wash. Currently, the Connie is undergoing restoration at Boeing's Plant 2 building thanks in part to a large financial contribution from an anonymous donor but also because of a bureaucratic victory. The restoration begat a two-year bureaucratic fight over ownership of the aircraft. At that time, the project was in the U.S., but Canada stepped forward to claim the until then much-neglected Connie as "a priceless piece of Canada's heritage," according to the Seattle Times. Ultimately, however, no Canadian institution stepped forward to buy the plane and the restoration project was kicked into high gear. The aircraft is set to go on display at the Museum of Flight later this year.

(Archive) Picture(s) A Day – 9 January 2010 – More Plane Pr0n! from Parrothead Jeff by Parrothead Jeff | Folks, let's just say that yesterday wasn't the greatest in that I'm still not well.  I talked to my sister today who's a recently minted RN and she advised that I shouldn't be too worried just yet and confirmed that I'm on the right path with going to see the doc again sometime early this week.  I'm shooting for Monday after work, but we'll see if we can't work something out for Tuesday if that won't fly.  I don't want to miss work, but maybe I can go in early and leave early as well.
