WAC Day5-6  from per Ardua ad Astra by Grant Piper | Day 5 we  had a few raindrops and we stopped flying for it to clear.   That afternoon we got one flight in and then it stormed, shutting everything down.   Everyone pitched in to secure aircraft and tents and no damage was done, but no more flying took place.   At this point we were only halfway through the third group of pilots.  Yesterday briefing was slid until 1030 due forecast unsuitable weather early, but of course it was fine!   Then we flew the two warm-up pilots, one competition flight, and then the judges video camera broke…

Sacramento Air Show - This year we finally went inside Mather Field to see the airplanes on display at the Sacramento Air Show. We LOVED it. We have always loved watching the Blue Angels, or Thunderbirds, whichever year it is, but this year it was nice to go inside meet some pilots, learn about flying and go inside the aircraft. Above is one of the airplanes that loads up the tanks and stuffs. The whole inside is empty. And, as you can see below, the nose folds up so there's a ramp in the front and end with the

MERFI - Grimes Field, Urbana, Ohio - September 12 & 13, 2009

The 42nd Annual Mid Eastern Regional Fly in (MERFI ) will take place at Grimes Field in Urbana on Sept 12th & 13th. The public is welcome.

This year there are multiple activities throughout the weekend starting with a pancake breakfast Saturday & Sunday morning by the Lion’s Club (contact Lions Club for pre-sale tickets) This years event has added famous aviators, youth activities, flight simulators, model aircraft displays, workshops and the opportunity to see an exciting variety of aircraft.

Meet J. W. “Corkey” Fornoff, veteran stunt pilot in more than 50 movies and 100 commercials. Credits include; James Bond movies, movies with Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Robert Redford and Demi Moore. He will be providing a flight demonstration during the event.

Warbirds, experimental aircraft and even the Yankee Lady B17 will be on display and it will be selling rides. Additional historical aircraft will be displayed at the new Champaign Aviation Museum on the North end of the airport. The recently opened museum is an excellent addition to this history rich airport.

Admission to the event is only $6.00 per person, and kids under 12 are free with an adult. Gates will be open to the public 9 AM to 5 PM Saturday and 9 AM to 3 PM on Sunday. Unique T-shirts, aviation patches and other items will be available for sale.

Saturday, beginning at 5:30 PM, will be the event dinner. Our dinner speaker will be Senior Master Sergeant (retrd.) David W. Scheff. Master Sargent Scheff was responsible for all maintenance, modifications and upgrades for the VC 25A (Air Force One) and other aircraft transporting the President of the United States of America.

The cost of dinner tickets is only $10 per person, non refundable, by reservations only. Email daves@techii.com for your tickets.
