Heather Penney and Race21 Team To Race at Reno! - PFLUGERVILLE, TX – SEPTEMBER 7, 2011 – LiveAirShowTV was contacted by AirRace21 General Manager Peter Frey to announce that pilot Heather Penney and the team will be racing at the 2011 Reno National Championship Air Races.  “This has been a stressful week for the team after being told to stand down for safety concerns with all of the L-29’s that have Viper engines”, said Frey.  “Safety is the number one concern at the races.  The plane we will be flying is the #76 of Greg McNutt.  It is an L-29 that competed last year in the Silver Jet Race. McNutt is a friend of AirRace21 and Heather and when he heard about our dilemma he called and offered us his plane.  In addition, Mike Mangold, the Vice-President of Racing Jets International and two-time Red Bull Air Racing World Champion, will be ferrying the plane from its home in Hollister, CA to Reno.  He will also be the officially-designated 'second pilot' for the AirRace21 team and will be Heather's alternate at Reno.”  As of this posting, no other information is available regarding the other jets, which include defending champion Curt Brown in #77 “Viper”, Mike Mangold in #12 “Euro Burner” and John Kokshoorn in #11 “Screaming Eagle.  LiveAirShowTV will on the ramp beginning Wednesday, Sept 14th to bring air racing fans the “Inside Story” on all of the developments at this year’s races.  Watch for our daily reports which will be uploaded overnight at www.LiveAirShowTV.com  Fans can also follow our progress on our Facebook Fan Page, and you can follow us on Twitter.  Complete information on Heather Penney and AirRace21 Raju Grace can be found at www.airrace21.com.  AirRace 21 also has a Facebook Fan Page.  The countdown has begun.  It’s going to be a great week at the races!

The World’s Fastest Motor Sport  from Leaving Terra Firma by Matt Everett | I want to start off with an update from the World Aerobatic Championship. Right now we are 3rd in the overall team rankings behind France and Russia. Rob Holland and Goody Thomas are currently occupying the 7th and 8th spots in the individual rankings. While we’re not top dogs, I think everyone is having a great time and our team is doing really well. It is worth noting, that the Russians are using the Su-26M3 with the new 430-hp M9F radial engine. In the past they have dominated with this combination…

Carolinas Aviation Museum: Cactus 1549 'Miracle On The Hudson' (15 Pix)  by Martt |  My wife and I recently made a short and fast road trip from Indiana to Charlotte North Carolina to visit our daughter and her husband. We traveled on Friday and Monday, so we had just the weekend to visit. Fortunately we packed quite a bit into those two days, including a hot air balloon ride for me (son-in-law runs High Life Ballooning - ride post coming soon), and a stop at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte to see the Miracle on the Hudson, the US Airways Airbus A320 made famous by Sully Sullenberger and crew. As it turns out, the crew was based in Charlotte, the airplane was headed there when they ingested the geese that shut down both engines, and over 100 of the 150 passengers were from Charlotte. Charlotte seems the perfect place for the airplane to be on display…

UCAP Back-Taxi: Episode 1  from UCAP Blog by Jeff Ward  (One of the things I want to do in the blog is to celebrate UCAP’s longevity by revisiting some past episodes and following up on some of the stories.  As you can see, I’m labeling these retrospective posts “UCAP Back-Taxi”.  Hope you like them – comments welcomed!)   I recently gave a re-listen to Episode 1 of the podcast – “First Flight”, dated 24 August, 2006.  Of course, it wasn’t yet known as the Uncontrolled Airspace Podcast, but that came soon thereafter.   It was an impressive first effort, and it’s interesting after five years and 250 episodes now to go back and see that the same group dynamic we’re so used to in the virtual hangar was evident right from the start…
