Legendary C-47 Flying Over the Pond in Time for Oshkosh - EAA News | A legendary flying World War II aircraft, the C-47 Dakota N1944A, is coming back home from a long stay in Europe, and just in time for AirVenture Oshkosh. The aircraft, which saw duty in some of the most important battles of the war, was purchased in the UK this week by Kermit Weeks for Fantasy of Flight's flying aircraft collection in Polk City, Florida. But first, according to FOF's Facebook page, "N1944A will make its Homecoming Debut at AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where it will be displayed for a few months, before flying south to Fantasy of Flight."  N1944A is among the relative few surviving WWII aircraft that saw duty during the conflict, including ...

TAHOE SHOW TO BENEFIT FRANKLIN FAMILY - via ICAS Fast Facts | An all-star cast has signed on for a benefit air show to be held at the Minden-Tahoe Airport in Minden, Nevada on August 27 and 28. The proceeds will be used to support and address some of the medical expenses of the Franklin Family. Air boss Wayne Boggs, announcer Danny Clisham and soundman Jay Rabbit will be at show center. BERRIOCHOA RECEIVES AWARD FOR AIR SHOWS MAGAZINE ARTICLE ON HOOVER - ICAS Fast Facts | The prestigious communications organization Communications Concepts, Inc. has given its 2011 APEX Award of Excellence to the magazine article about legendary pilot Bob Hoover that appeared in the fourth quarter, 2010 issue of Air Shows magazine. The article was written by frequent contributor Mike Berriochoa. It chronicles Hoover’s aviation career and included his reflections on the many changes that have taken place in the air show industry both during his career and since his retirement.
The article was among a field of more than 3,300 entries submitted from across the country and around the world. “We’re proud that Mike received this important award. It is a reflection on his writing talents but it is also a reflection on the quality and value that his writing brings to our industry,” said ICAS President John Cudahy. Berriochoa is an air show announcer and professional writer with many writing awards to his credit.  The APEX awards program is a leading international awards program honoring creative excellence for communications professionals.
