For those who like to stay grounded while watching others do dizzying stunts, there will also be aircraft displays, flight simulators and that good old standby, food. Pilots enjoy building and flying experimental airplanes from Diamond Pilots
Dave McPhee first bought a kit and tried to assemble the pieces into an airplane in 1970.
"I had two young kids at the time," says the 61-year-old Wildomar resident, who lived in Omaha, Neb., then. "I was building what they call a BD-5. At the time I was working on it, they started crashing all over the country. I lost some people I knew.
"I looked at my kids, and the wife looks at me and says, 'This isn't going to work.' "
