Dayton Adds P-51 Mustang Demonstration and C-5 Galaxy Flyover to Lineup

Dayton, Ohio – The Vectren Dayton Air Show presented by Kroger announces two last-minute, but very exciting additions to an already blockbuster line-up. Confirmed this week are a P-51 Mustang Demonstration and a C-5 Galaxy flyover that will occur each show day, July 18th and 19th.

The P-51 Mustang, “Glamorous Gal” was previously confirmed as the U.S.A.F. Heritage Flight aircraft that will fly in formation with the U.S.A.F. A-10 Thunderbolt II East Coast Demonstration aircraft. While the Heritage Flight is a memorable sight, seeing the WWII era Mustang as a demonstration will give spectators a better perspective of what some would call the definitive fighter of the ages. The P-51 was a “game changer” for WWII as the Mustang provided critical escort for bombers. The maneuverable Mustang is fast and was a proven champ in dogfights with German fighters. Dale Snodgrass, a retired Navy Captain, with an impressive flying background, will pilot “Glamorous Gal”. Named as the Navy’s Fighter Pilot of the Year in 1985 and best F-14 pilot in 1986, Snodgrass has the highest time as an F-14 pilot and over 10,000 total hours in fighter jets. There is no doubt that Air Show spectators will be wowed by Snodgrass’ demonstration of the P-51 Mustang.

Contrasting the demonstration of the Mustang will be a flyover by the mammoth C-5 Galaxy based at the 445th Airlift Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The giant C-5 is a cargo workhorse of the United States Air Force and maintains a very busy work tempo. Residents of the Dayton area often see the Galaxy as it flies training missions around the area. Spectators at the Air Show will not only witness the C-5 Galaxy flyover each day, but also get to look at one up close on static display.
