Best Moment of 2008 from www.airshowbuzz.com
[Post #44 - So many great posts, and many great pictures, but this is probably the best post in the thread thus far - have you added your favorite moment yet?]
As a newcomer to the Air Show world, this being my first year, it is impossible for me to pick just one exciting moment. Mike and I had so many wonderful experiences this past year.
It is so easy to say the Blues or the Birds, or the incredible Demo teams, but I really think for me, getting to meet so many of the service men and women, both back from deployment and the one's about to go, has to be one of the highlights of this past year for me. We also had the opportunity to meet some of their families and to see how proud they were of their person, and that was definately worth the price of admission, every time!!! At Oceana, the F-18 Super Hornet went up for the Demo. and the woman standing next to me, turned to me and said, "That's my son flying that plane", I wanted to cry, it touched me so much. She couldn't have been more proud, and when he landed and went by, you could clearly see the tears in her eyes--mine too for that matter.

NXT article in Air & Space - from www.aafo.com [good photos too] [Photo credit]
Since AAFO honors airplane builders, crew members, and Race pilots, it might be appropriate to mention here that Laminar, AKA Elliot Seguin, happens to be all three. He is a member of the crew of Nemesis NXT -- congratulations on a remarkable Reno! He has built up a Cassutt racer over the last couple of years. At Reno 2008 he made his rookie outing as a racer in #68 "Wasabi".

Alan Henley Update - Caring Bridge
[Good news!] This is going to be short because I have a sweet little girl begging me to curl up with her in the bed but I wanted to let you all know that Alan has had a really good day. He is so alert and had a great day with Skylar and Brandon.

WWI Camp Dodge - Living Statue of Liberty
"On a stifling July day in 1918, 18,000 officers and soldiers posed as Lady Liberty on the parade [drill] grounds at Camp Dodge." [This area was west of Baker St. and is currently the area around building S34 and to the west.] "According to a July 3, 1986, story in the Fort Dodge Messenger, many men fainted-they were dressed in woolen uniforms-as the temperature neared 105 degrees Farenheit. The photo, taken from the top of a specially constructed tower by a Chicago photography studio, Mole & Thomas, was intended to help promote the sale of war bonds but was never used." (Grover 1987)

Vulcan XH558 Flies Home To An Uncertain Future
from UK Airshow Review News and Updates
Saturday 22nd November 2008
On Wednesday 12th November, XH558 successfully completed her final planned flight of 2008 - the transit from Farnborough, where she had stayed for some time awaiting an overhauled brake unit, back to Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome.
Right now, TVOC are now in the position of having enough funds identified to keep them going for maybe a couple of months, but unless they find new funds over that period, the future for XH558 will be bleak indeed.
