Bonhomme Wins Porto As Hall Takes First Podium from Bleacher Report
2009 Could be Paul Bonhomme's (GBR) year, but the season isn't over, so let us not jump to conclusions too quickly!
The Portuguese stop in the 2009 edition of the Red Bull Air Race saw both a return to form for the defending champion Hannes Arch (AUT) but an even bigger return for Bonhomme who not only won the race, but took the qualifying point just 24 hours earlier to build up a cushy four point lead over his rival with only one round left to go.
However, overshadowing these two men in the fight for the title was rookie Matt Hall (AUS) who only in his fifth Red Bull Air Race was able to step onto the podium and take home some hardware!
Rookie Matthias Dolderer (GER) looked like a contender for the Final Four, but two two-second penalties in the Super Eight round cost him dearly and left him in sixth.
Kirby Chambliss (USA) had a technical issue with his Edge 540 in the Super Eight round and couldn't compete at all. The fastest man in practice had to settle in eighth place with a DNS.

Britain’s Paul Bonhomme won a thrilling Red Bull Air Race today in front of a record-breaking crowd of 720,000 in Porto to widen his lead to 4 points over defending champion Hannes Arch of Austria. Australian rookie Matt Hall took a sensational 3rd place, the first podium of his career, and jumped from 5th to 3rd in the overall championship.
Bonhomme stopped the clock in 1:09.23 on his final run through the 6.6-km course set up through 17 Air Gates on the Douro River under brilliant blue skies in the coastal Portuguese city to beat Arch by 0.94 seconds and Hall by 2.00 seconds. It was the second 2009 win for Bonhomme, who now has 55 championship points compared to 51 for Arch. Hall has 33 points and has overtaken both Nicolas Ivanoff of France and Mike Mangold of the United States on the strength of his stirring performance.

Rare Warbird Seized By Federal Officials from AVwebFlash Current Issue
Federal agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is part of the Department for Homeland Security, have seized a Douglas AD-4N Skyraider that was imported to the U.S. from France last year, EAA said this week. "The feds have seized it," Claude Hendrickson, of Bessemer, Ala., confirmed to AVweb on Wednesday. "It's here in a hangar under lock and key and we are not allowed access to it." Hendrickson bought the airplane in France and flew it home last year. It was registered with the FAA last September and has been flying since then. DHS alleges that required forms were improperly filed, according to EAA. Hendrickson has created a Web site with details about the airplane, and asks that supporters contact their congressional representatives to plead for the preservation and return of the airplane.

The American ace won the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in both of the last two odd years (2005 and 2007), he was born in an odd year (1955), is one of 3 children, moved to California at age 3, and he even has an odd number painted on his plane (11). Some of his rivals might say Mangold has an odd way of flying as well.

Colonel Richard. H. Graham, who was there to give a 'talk' on his days as a 'sledge-driver'. Love every minute of the talk and his shots of nearly being in space. We found him very polite and not shy at all to answer questions which came at the end of the talk. If you get the chance to see him please do so. He told of how to get more comfortable in that space-suit, being using a valve on the side of his suit. Also the way to get rid of a 'nose itch' was to use a food tube to scratch his nose. It can and was done. The highest he went up in a Blackbird was 87,000 feet unless I mis-heard him. The Blackbird flights never went over Soviet airspace, more on the borders of that Country. And they don't leak fuel big-time like one statement had suggested.
